Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to share my feedback regarding your service which was acquired on 17th September. Booking code : 7651.
I was highly impressed by the conduct of your staff. They were punctual and cooperating which made an already very stressful day calming. From the packing to the moving aspect of our furniture, it was a smooth experience. They asked me not to worry about anything and just take care of my infant daughter who was having a bad day. Such conduct and understanding goes a very long way in the service industry. I will definitely be recommending your services to my friends and family.
One person who went out of his way to accomodate us was Mr Lee. When he saw me cleaning the dirty floors underneath the furniture, he offered to lend a hand. Moreover, when our trip limit was reached he offered us a fifty percent discount for our final trip which saved our valuable money.
However, constructive criticism helps all of us improve. I was not hugely impressed by the size of the truck. Moving companies have transitioned to large scale haulers which have more storage. Larger storage capacity directly corelates to less number of trips back and forth and hence less time.
I hope my sincere feedback would help you improve your services.
Yours faithfully,
Muhammad Ali Noorani

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points of the task in a natural, polite letter format. The writer explains what went well on the day, such as the punctuality and helpfulness of the staff with packing and moving. Furthermore, an employee named Mr Lee is specifically praised for helping with the cleaning and offering a discount. Finally, an aspect of the service that caused dissatisfaction—the small size of the truck—is clearly mentioned. The purpose of the letter is apparent throughout, and the tone is appropriate for a formal complaint and feedback letter. The response meets all the task requirements thoroughly, earning a band score of 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle paragraphs addressing each prompt requirement, and a proper closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each main idea separated into its own paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and referencing pronouns are used reasonably well to guide the reader through the text, although some transitions could be smoother. The progression of ideas is logical overall, moving from general satisfaction to specific praise, then to constructive criticism, which fully satisfies the band 7 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. The student attempts some less common expressions such as 'constructive criticism', 'haulaers', and 'corelates'. However, there are a few lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors, such as 'cooperating' instead of 'cooperative', 'trip limit' instead of 'number of trips', and 'accomodate' which is misspelled. Despite these minor issues, the range is sufficient to convey the intended message clearly and precisely, which aligns with the band 6.5 descriptor, rounded to 6.0 based on the minor spelling and collocation slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The writer demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'When he saw me cleaning the dirty floors underneath the furniture, he offered to lend a hand.' Grammar and punctuation are generally well controlled, and errors do not impede communication. There are minor slips, such as 'service which was acquired' (slightly unnatural phrasing) and 'less number of trips' instead of 'fewer trips', but the majority of sentences are grammatically sound. The control shown across various structures comfortably supports a band 7.0.
