Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter regarding the service that your company provided recently in moving my belongings to a new location. I would really appreciate the opportunity to share my feedback on this occasion.
Firstly, the entire moving team with the truck was arrived ahead of schedule. After analysing and accounting the furniture, they carefully started the process to carry them to the vehicle. Throughout the time, they handled items very carefully and gently, as it involved many delicate items like a glass mirror, and televison for instance, which was very crucial for me.
Moreover, I particularly like to thank Mr. Adam, who was the team leader. This person was really fantastic and respectful throughout the time. Not only that, but also handled the tasks very kindly and wrapped up things within the time duration mentioned in the terms.
Ultimately, the service was great, but, I would also like to mention my main aspect of dissatisfcation regarding it, it was the tire of the moving vehicle which got punctured during the time of shifting in the middle of the road. I understand this happened out of no where, but this significantly caused delay in the overall process.
I hope this letter helps you understand the feedback.
Yours faithfully,
Harsh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The candidate has successfully addressed all three bullet points required in the task instructions. Firstly, the letter explains what went well on the day, specifically noting that the team arrived ahead of schedule and handled delicate items such as a glass mirror and a television with great care. Secondly, it praises a specific employee, Mr. Adam, highlighting his respectful and helpful demeanor as team leader. Finally, it mentions an aspect of the service that was unsatisfactory—the punctured tire of the moving vehicle which caused a delay. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint or feedback letter, and all ideas are relevant and adequately developed. Therefore, this fulfills the criteria for a solid performance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear overall progression. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct point: the introduction, the positive aspects of the move, the praise for the employee, the negative aspect, and a polite sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Ultimately' are used to structure the ideas effectively, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different themes of the feedback. Referencing is generally clear, ensuring the reader can easily follow the narrative from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'ahead of schedule', 'delicate items', and 'dissatisfcation'. However, there are notable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'the entire moving team with the truck was arrived' (incorrect passive/active mix) and 'accounting the furniture' instead of 'accounting for' or 'cataloguing'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the score from reaching a higher band. Spelling is mostly accurate except for a typo in 'dissatisfcation'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The candidate attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. However, there are several noticeable grammatical errors throughout the text. For instance, 'was arrived' is incorrect, 'as it involved many delicate items like a glass mirror, and televison for instance' contains punctuation and phrasing awkwardness, and 'this happened out of no where' should be 'out of nowhere'. Additionally, sentence structures occasionally feel clunky. Despite these frequent errors, meaning remains clear and they do not impede communication.
