Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this mail because your company requested my feedback about the service you provided me to move the furniture and possessions to my new apartment.
I am very happy with your customer service because your employees did their best in packaging and shifting the furniture. At first, I felt nervous about packing the items, but the team members did amazing work such as labeling the boxes and they finished all the work ahead of schedule.
All the team members did amazing work, but one of the team members named Kamal, helped all the other members to complete their work on time. Firstly, I thought he was manager but at the end when I asked him, he told me that he is the supervisor.
I felt a little disappointed when the team moving my furniture and they accidentally dented my newly refrigerator, but it is obvious at the time of shifting. I truly appreciate your whole team for the management, packing and shifting.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Nitika

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The candidate has successfully addressed all three bullet points required in the task prompt. The letter clearly explains what went well on moving day, specifically mentioning packaging, labeling, and finishing ahead of schedule. An employee, Kamal, is praised for his helpful supervision, and an aspect of dissatisfaction is introduced, namely the dented refrigerator. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint and feedback letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of General Training Task 1. Therefore, this response achieves a solid Band 7.0 for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as the positive aspects in the second paragraph, the employee praise in the third, and the negative aspect in the fourth. Cohesive devices are generally handled well, though some linking is slightly repetitive or basic, such as the repeated use of 'and' and 'all the team members'. Referencing is mostly clear, although the transition between paragraphs could be smoother. The overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, making this performance fit comfortably into Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, such as 'ahead of schedule', 'customer service', and 'supervisor'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, most notably 'dented my newly refrigerator' instead of 'new refrigerator', and 'packaging and shifting' where 'packing and moving' would be more natural. Less common vocabulary is attempted with mixed success. Spelling and word choice errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. This lexical control aligns well with a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'At first, I felt nervous about packing the items, but the team members did amazing work...'. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing instances, such as 'when the team moving my furniture and they accidentally dented' (missing a verb or preposition) and 'he told me that he is the supervisor' (tense inconsistency, should be 'was'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while errors are present, they rarely impede overall communication. This mix of structures and control corresponds to a Band 6.0.
