Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The candidate attempts to cover the required points in the letter, although the execution is uneven. The letter mentions what went well on the moving day, specifically noting that the workers were punctual and responsibility was taken. Additionally, an employee named John is praised for his careful handling of glass items. An aspect of the service that was not entirely satisfactory is implied through a discussion of affordability and timeliness, but the negative aspect is weak and poorly articulated. The opening salutation used is 'Hi sir', which deviates from the requested 'Dear Sir or Madam', and the tone is overly informal for a business feedback letter. Overall, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a score of 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter lacks a clear paragraph structure and logical progression, jumping abruptly between ideas without adequate cohesive devices. The response begins with a lengthy introduction explaining how the company was found, which is unnecessary for the prompt requirements. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as using 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' in a disjointed manner. Referencing is also weak, with pronouns like 'they' and 'he' creating ambiguity in places. Furthermore, the abrupt ending without a proper sign-off disrupts the overall organization of the letter, leading to a coherence score of 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, representing a limited range adequate only for familiar tasks. Words like 'good', 'nice', and 'stuff' are relied upon heavily. There are several noticeable word choice errors and typos, such as 'workere' instead of workers, 'employ' instead of employee, and 'compamy' instead of company. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the main message, they cause noticeable strain and reveal a lack of precision in style and collocation, placing the lexical resource in the band 5.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions like 'and' and 'because'. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles, incorrect verb tenses, and problems with subject-verb agreement, as seen in 'the starting time 8 but they came half an hour early' and 'the did wok on time'. Complex structures are attempted with poor accuracy, and punctuation is largely neglected, with run-on sentences and missing capitalization. These frequent errors impede smooth reading and warrant a band score of 5.0.
