Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The candidate has addressed all parts of the task prompt, successfully explaining what went well on the moving day, praising a helpful employee, and mentioning an aspect of the service that was unsatisfactory. However, the response includes unnecessary preamble paragraphs outside the formal letter format that repeat information and confuse the communicative purpose. While all bullet points are covered, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and basic. For instance, the praise for the employee and the complaint about punctuality are stated rather than fully elaborated. Furthermore, the letter ignores the prompt's instruction to begin with 'Dear Sir or Madam,' instead using an unconventional greeting structure. Overall, the response meets the minimum requirements for content coverage, but the structural confusion and underdeveloped supporting details place it at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The coherence and cohesion of the response are significantly hindered by poor paragraphing, lack of proper capitalization, and weak organizational structure. The student includes introductory metatext before the letter itself, which disrupts the logical flow. Within the letter, the text is compressed into very short, poorly defined sections rather than distinct paragraphs for each task requirement. Cohesive devices are minimal and basic, relying on simple connectors like 'on the other hand' and 'in conclusion'. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate different topics, making the progression of ideas disjointed and occasionally difficult to follow. Referencing is basic, and punctuation errors further disrupt the logical transition between sentences. These features align closely with the Band 4.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a very limited lexical range that is barely adequate for the task. Vocabulary choices are simple, repetitive, and heavily reliant on basic everyday words such as 'things', 'house', 'workers', and 'company'. There are noticeable inappropriate word choices and collocations, such as 'best cooperated', 'in appraise of', and 'well communicated', which sound unnatural and reflect a literal translation from another language. Additionally, there are several word-formation and spelling errors, including 'punctulity' instead of 'punctuality' and 'discipled' instead of 'disciplined'. Although the meaning is generally retrievable despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands, placing this response firmly at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The student displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying almost entirely on simple sentences combined with faulty attempts at complex clauses. There is a complete lack of standard capitalization throughout the entire text, which negatively impacts punctuation control. Grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors including missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and faulty verb tense usage, such as 'i availed services' and 'the time was decided to move all accessories to new home, they were late almost 4 hours' (a comma splice). These persistent errors frequently cause strain for the reader and demonstrate poor control over basic sentence construction. The grammatical profile corresponds to a Band 4.0 level.
