Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my satisfaction with the service you provide me for moving my furniture to the new apartment ,except two mistakes they made.

Firstly, I would impress by the perfection of the work your employees did at my place. They wraped all my glass furniture in newspapers then they cover it with bubble wraps and lastly they arrange everyting in a wodden box. The packaging system surprized me a lot. However, we finished our moving before the time.

Secondly, I specially wants to thanking a Harsh who is very talented and hard working man. Moreover, he helped me a lot during shifting things carefull y, handling and moving with heavy furnitures like sofa, bed frames and tv. I reallylike the work he did was really appriciable.

Lastly, I am not satis

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The candidate has attempted all parts of the letter prompt, including explaining what went well, praising an employee, and mentioning an unhappy aspect. However, the response stops abruptly mid-sentence ('Lastly, I am not satis'), resulting in an incomplete conclusion and a total word count of 138 words, which falls short of the 150-word minimum. Because the prompt is not fully carried through to the end, the task is only partially addressed in terms of development. For Band 5, the response addresses the task only partially with limited or incomplete ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter attempts a clear structure by dividing points into paragraphs using basic sequence markers such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. However, the abrupt ending means the final paragraph is incomplete. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or misused, as seen in awkward transitions like 'Moreover, he helped me a lot during shifting things carefull y, handling and moving...'. Paragraphing is attempted, but overall progression is hindered by grammatical and lexical disruptions. This aligns with Band 5 descriptors, where there is some organization but cohesion is faulty or repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic recounting of events, featuring words like 'perfection', 'packaging', and 'furniture'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'wraped' instead of 'wrapped', 'cover' instead of 'covered', and 'arrangment' (implied). The student attempts less common vocabulary ('appriciable', 'surprized'), but these contain frequent spelling and collocation inaccuracies. Communication is maintained, but the range is limited and constrained by these errors, placing the response firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence structures, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'service you provide me for moving' (tense/aspect error), 'I would impress by' (passive voice error), and 'I specially wants to thanking' (subject-verb agreement and infinitive errors). Punctuation and spacing are also faulty in places, such as 'apartment ,except'. Because the errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the performance matches Band 5 descriptors.
