Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am plased to recieve a feedback request from your company, I am writting this letter to share the experience and feedbacks with regards to service your frim provided for moving my belonging to my new apartment.

Firstly, I wanted to let you know that overall I am happy with the service provided. From your timely arrival on the day of service; to the packaging of all goods with care for shipment, and finally handling of delicate goods all activities were taken care of without any hurdles, Moreover those "Handle with care" stickers of glass items were cherry on cake for me, as a positive service.

Furthermore, I want to personally thank the captain who extended his work hours to late night 2AM. I am very impressed by his dedication and hardwork that he puts into his work.

I would also want to suggest few areas where your team can improvise while doing the transfers, you can plan for differentiating items with different coloured boxes, which will help the person who took the service to further unpack the possessions, such as if kitchenware are marked as green boxes, then hometextile can be marked in different coloured box. This will ease the end customer while unboxing.

I hope my feedbacks will help you analise the service provided. Let me know if I can be of any more help.

Your's Faithfully,

Kushagra Shinde

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The candidate successfully covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. The letter begins with the appropriate salutation and clearly explains what went well on the day of the move, such as the timely arrival and careful handling of goods. Furthermore, the writer successfully praises an employee, specifically mentioning the captain's dedication and extended hours, and introduces a constructive suggestion regarding coloured boxes as the area for improvement. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the tone is appropriate for a formal business correspondence. Ideas are sufficiently developed and extended, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 7 performance under this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter exhibits a clear logical progression and overall organisation, with distinct paragraphs dedicated to the introduction, positive aspects, employee praise, areas for improvement, and a closing remark. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'I would also want to' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some transitional elements are slightly mechanical or run-on, such as comma splices linking clauses. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different ideas, ensuring the reader can easily follow the sequence of thoughts. Overall cohesion is managed well, aligning with the Band 6.5 to 7 descriptor range.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a general correspondence task, successfully incorporating terms like 'apartment', 'shipment', 'dedication', and 'kitchenware'. However, there are notable spelling and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'plased' instead of 'pleased', 'recieve' instead of 'receive', 'writting' instead of 'writing', and 'analise' instead of 'analyse'. Additionally, the phrase 'cherry on cake' is slightly unnatural compared to the standard idiom 'cherry on top'. While these vocabulary errors are noticeable, they do not impede overall communication, placing the response solidly at a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, demonstrating an attempt to vary grammatical forms. However, control over punctuation and sentence boundaries is inconsistent, leading to run-on sentences and comma splices, particularly in the opening paragraph where multiple clauses are joined incorrectly with commas. Other minor grammatical slips occur, such as 'few areas where your team can improvise' instead of 'improve', and the sign-off 'Your's Faithfully' contains an unnecessary apostrophe. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and the majority of simple structures are accurate, supporting a Band 6 score.
