Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student has successfully addressed all three bullet points required in the task instructions. They explained what went well, specifically mentioning the careful wrapping of fragile items and the efficient use of vehicles. They praised a helpful employee who watched carefully to prevent wall scratches when moving furniture from the second floor. Furthermore, they mentioned an aspect of the service they were unhappy with, which was the workers smoking. The tone is appropriate for a customer feedback letter, and the ideas are relevant, though some parts are slightly basic and lack full extension. The response satisfies the requirements of the prompt and covers all necessary elements adequately, aligning well with Band 6 criteria.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter lacks proper paragraphing, as it is written in one continuous block of text after the salutation. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes repetitive or misused, such as 'when i start moving' and 'also the have'. There is a lack of cohesive links to guide the reader smoothly from one idea to the next. While the overall arrangement of ideas follows a logical sequence—starting with the positive aspects, moving to the specific employee, and ending with the negative aspect and suggestions—the structural flaws and absence of paragraph breaks pull this criterion down to a Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is fairly basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'funiture' instead of furniture, 'bussiness' instead of business, and 'not' instead of note. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'enhancement' or 'franchise', but these attempts are marred by inaccurate spelling and collocation. Words like 'stuff' or basic descriptive terms are often missing in favor of fragmented phrasal expressions. However, the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the intended message to the reader without causing complete breakdown in communication, fitting the Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions or run-on clauses linked by commas, such as 'they take care things very carefully showpiece, crockery they wrap with bubble wrap.' There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles, subject-verb agreement issues ('worker are smoker'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is largely neglected, with missing capitalisation and comma splices throughout the text. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect the characteristics of a Band 5 performance.
