Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to give my feedback about the moving service that your company provided last week.
There were many thing which were absolutely upto the mark. The first thing was the timings. Your truck arrived at my door exactly at 9 AM, which was impressive. Another thing was handling the precious objects. Your team delivered all my glass items safely at my new apartment without any damage to them.
Furthermore, I would like to emphasis one of your employees name Mr. Kapoor. He was very friendly and explained all the steps of this service in detail to me. He also listened to my all instructions and followed them.
On the other hand, one thing that I was not satisfied was your availability. I asked your manager to pick up my furniture and possessions in the afternoon as I had a job in morning. But he told me that you company only works in mornings. So this was a bit disappointed for me.
I hope you like my review and consider my suggestion. Thank you for your time.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. Gupta

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully covered all parts of the letter prompt. You clearly explained what went well, such as the punctual arrival of the truck and the safe delivery of fragile items. You also praised a helpful employee, Mr. Kapoor, and mentioned an aspect of the service you were unhappy with, specifically the company's lack of flexible afternoon availability. Your ideas are relevant and well-extended, showing a clear purpose and a consistent tone throughout. To move towards higher bands, you could develop your ideas further by providing even more specific details or background context about your move, ensuring every bullet point is thoroughly expanded with rich elaboration.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter is easy to read and follows a clear logical organisation. You used paragraphing effectively, dedicating individual paragraphs to distinct points like the positive aspects, the employee praise, and the negative feedback. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'The first thing' help guide the reader smoothly through your thoughts. To achieve a higher score in this criterion, you could work on making your transitions more seamless and varied, avoiding slightly mechanical referencing and ensuring that every sentence connects fluidly to the next without relying on formulaic transition words.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You used an adequate range of vocabulary to complete the task effectively. Phrases like 'upto the mark', 'precious objects', and 'friendly' communicate your meaning clearly. However, there are some lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as writing 'emphasis' instead of 'emphasise' or 'disappointed' instead of 'disappointing'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate less common and more precise lexical items with correct collocations and demonstrate a better awareness of word formation and style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrated a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully using relative clauses and conditional structures. Your punctuation and grammar are generally clear enough that your message is never obscured. However, there are several grammatical errors present, such as 'There were many thing which were' instead of 'things', 'listened to my all instructions' instead of 'all my instructions', and 'one thing that I was not satisfied was' missing a preposition like 'with'. To improve your grammar score, you should focus on eliminating basic agreement and preposition errors while increasing your control over more complex sentence patterns.
