Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this to express my satisfication towards the work that has been done by your team. The service was pretty wonderful from estimating the cost till delivering at the end point. Although, there are so many companies in the market but nobody provided full disclosure like yours.

Let me explain in detail. Firstly, the quotation was legitimate as you have taken consideration of all the measurements as well as weights. The other company I talked to gave me a fixed price. Secondly, the communication was hands on. From the beginning to the very end I was full aware of the situation what's going on and where.

I really want to appreciate "John" for his critical thinking. As one of my old cabinet has very expensive glass items which are gifts from my late grandfather is very close to my heart. In the process of moving, the lock suddenly malfunctioned. But, John handeled the situation speedely and organizely. Furthermore, he also helper me rewrap all the glasswares.

On the otherside, I just have one complain regarding the transactions. As I have done my payment before time but I didn't recieced my confirmation till the next day. Other than that the service I got was remarkable. Thank you so much.

Yours Faithfully,

Yash.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

Your response covers all parts of the task well, establishing a clear purpose from the opening paragraph. You successfully explain what went well, such as the accurate quotation process, praise a specific helpful employee ('John') for handling the broken lock and glassware, and mention an area of dissatisfaction regarding the delayed payment confirmation. Your position is clear throughout, and the ideas are extended and supported, though the explanation of the payment issue is slightly more concise compared to the detailed praise for John. To move into higher bands, all bullet points would need to be equally extended with fully elaborated supporting details, ensuring no minor part feels slightly less developed than the rest.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

There is a clear logical organization and progression throughout the letter. You make effective use of sequencing cohesive devices, such as 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'Furthermore,' to guide the reader smoothly from your general introduction to specific details and finally to your complaint. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, including the positive aspects, the employee praise, and the minor grievance. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional mechanical transitions prevent the progression from feeling entirely natural and fluid. To achieve a higher standard, cohesive devices would need to be used with greater flexibility and subtlety rather than relying on standard enumerative markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, demonstrating sufficient range to communicate your experience effectively. You attempt less common lexical items and phrases, such as 'full disclosure,' 'legitimate,' and 'critical thinking.' However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'satisfication' instead of 'satisfaction,' 'hands on' instead of 'hands-on' or responsive, 'speedely' instead of 'speedily,' 'organizely' instead of 'organised,' 'recieced' instead of 'received,' and 'otherside' instead of 'other side.' These inaccuracies do not impede communication, but they highlight the need for greater precision in spelling and word form when attempting less common vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'Although, there are so many companies...' and 'As I have done my payment before time...'. There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as unnecessary comma splices and prepositions ('express my satisfication towards,' 'taken consideration of,' 'done my payment'), verb tense inconsistencies ('what's going on' within past narrative context), and article omissions. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to easily follow your meaning. To reach a higher level, you would need to produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences with tighter grammatical control.
