Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my response to your recent services of moving apartment from 23 Bell street, NS to 69 Robie street, NS. It was an unforgettable and immersing experience with your team. Your staff is efficient and productive.
I would like to remark the team work and coordination, that is really markable. Additionally, this makes everything convient, easy to box, load in truck, unload and unbox. Moreover, there initiative to transport everything with care, brings a comfort and trust on your organisation. To adding to this, hospitality is top attire, which satisfies us recommend you.
However, there are few things which i wanted to address , they came at 12pm instead of 10am. Whereas, punctuality makes a lot of difference in shifting. Furthermore, crew members take their break from more than an hour, which makes my schedule messed up. Overall, facilities are noteworthy and commendable.
Regards,
Sam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
Your response addresses the task only minimally. While you do mention some aspects of what went well and touch upon parts of the service that you were unhappy with, your ideas are quite limited and lack proper development. For instance, regarding the employee who was particularly helpful, your praise is extremely general and vague, stating that staff are efficient and productive, rather than highlighting a specific individual or distinct helpful actions as requested by the prompt. Similarly, the points about timing and breaks are mentioned rather than fully explained with relevant details. To reach a higher level, you need to ensure that every bullet point from the prompt is fully extended and supported with clear, specific examples and explanations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
Your letter shows some organisation, as it is divided into logical paragraphs and attempts a clear progression from positive points to negative ones. However, there is no clear overall progression due to limited development, and the use of cohesive devices is often awkward, repetitive, or inadequate. For example, transition phrases like 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'To adding to this' are used mechanically and sometimes incorrectly. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs falters because referencing is not always clear and sentences feel somewhat disjointed. To improve, you should focus on using a wider variety of natural linking words and ensure that your sentences flow smoothly from one idea to the next without feeling abrupt.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for the task. You attempt some less common items and emotive words, but these attempts frequently result in noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form. Examples include phrases like 'immersing experience' instead of 'immersion' or 'immersive', 'markable' instead of 'remarkable', 'convient' (spelling error), 'there initiative' (confusing their and there), 'hospitality is top attire' (incorrect collocation and vocabulary usage), and 'facilities are noteworthy'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and obscure your exact meaning at times. To achieve a higher band, you need to use vocabulary accurately and naturally, paying closer attention to spelling, word formation, and standard collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You display a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, particularly involving prepositions, verb tenses, and article usage. For instance, phrases such as 'moving apartment', 'brings a comfort and trust on your organisation', 'crew members take their break from more than an hour', and incorrect punctuation with spaces before commas ('address ,') negatively impact the text. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve your grammar, you should work on mastering basic sentence patterns, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using prepositions and articles more accurately in your writing.
