Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I'm writing to share my feedback on the removal service I recently used when I moved to my new apartment.

Firstly, I would like to thank you for the excellent service that you offered. Your staff went the extra mile to pack all my belongings efficiently, handled them with great care, and moved them on time. They worked efficiently and finished the entire task on time.

Although all staff performed their duties well, I want to especially appreciate Mr. John for his extra effort. He prudently packed all my fragile items and labelled each box with its contents, which reduced my workload of finding my possessions.

However, I was slightly disappointed with the delivery time; a few boxes arrived much later than expected, which caused me some inconvenience as they contained essential kitchen items. I would highly advise improving your transportation service. Nevertheless, the overall experience was wonderful.

I hope you will take this feedback into consideration for future issues.

Yours faithfully,

Mamta

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt in a natural and clear manner. You clearly explained what went well, such as when you noted that your staff 'went the extra mile to pack all my belongings efficiently'. Furthermore, you appropriately praised an employee by name, stating that 'Mr. John' prudently packed fragile items and labelled each box. You also covered the third bullet point effectively by mentioning the disappointment with the delivery time for essential kitchen items. All three key requirements of the task are fully covered and extended with relevant supporting details, establishing a clear purpose and position throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

Your letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You start with an appropriate opening statement of purpose, move smoothly through the positive feedback, the employee praise, and the negative aspect, and finish with a polite concluding remark. Paragraphing is used logically and sufficiently, separating each distinct point into its own readable section. You also employ cohesive devices and referencing appropriately, using transitional markers like 'Firstly', 'Although', and 'However' to guide the reader seamlessly from one thought to the next without making the progression feel mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, successfully using less common lexical items such as 'prudently', 'inconvenience', and 'appreciation'. There is a good awareness of style and collocation suitable for a formal service feedback letter. However, there is a minor repetitive slip in your second paragraph where you used the word 'efficiently' twice in close proximity ('pack all my belongings efficiently', 'They worked efficiently'). Eliminating such minor repetitions and choosing a wider variety of synonyms would lift your lexical range even further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5

Your writing features a good variety of complex structures alongside simple sentence forms, showcasing frequent error-free sentences. You demonstrated good control of complex clauses when writing phrases like 'which reduced my workload of finding my possessions' and 'which caused me some inconvenience as they contained essential kitchen items'. Grammar and punctuation are generally well-managed throughout the text. A minor slip occurs in the opening phrase where you greet the reader as 'Dear Sir or Madam,' but sign off with 'Yours faithfully,'—which is correct, but overall sentence construction remains accurate and grammatically sound with strong punctuation control.
