Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response struggles to fully address the prompt's requirements. While the student attempts to write a letter to a removal company, the core parts of the task—explaining what went well on the day of the move, praising an employee, and mentioning an unhappy aspect—are confused by contradictory statements and largely irrelevant details about a personal health crisis and a landlord dispute. For instance, the writer states 'now this time i am unhappy to your service' but mixes this with requests for emergency workers and statements that the move is happening in the future. The ideas are limited and under-developed, making it difficult for the reader to follow a clear purpose, which keeps the response at a minimal level of task fulfilment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.0
The letter lacks a clear overall progression and logical organisation. The text is presented largely as a single block rather than being divided into logical paragraphs for different points, such as the greeting, body points, and sign-off. Cohesive devices are minimal or inaccurate, leading to abrupt shifts in topic, such as jumping from the moving date '12 january 2026' directly to 'Other company employes helps the house changing'. Referencing and pronouns are frequently unclear, making it hard to determine who is being referred to. While there is an attempt to use basic connecting words, the overall arrangement causes confusion for the reader regarding the sequence of events.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying on simple terms like 'house', 'apartment', 'company', and 'happy' or 'unhappy'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and word formation, such as 'living house', 'employes', 'vacate the house urgent', and 'tranfer me and my house mate furniture'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader in places, though the general topic of moving can still be vaguely discerned. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for expressing basic needs, but lacks the flexibility or precision needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences that are often poorly constructed. There are frequent grammatical errors, including incorrect verb tenses and forms ('Iam decided the change', 'is busy', 'i am not sleep properly', 'help to me'), missing prepositions, and faulty subject-verb agreement. Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, with erratic spacing and lowercase letters where capitals should be used. These frequent errors disrupt the flow of reading and can occasionally distort the intended meaning of the sentences, demonstrating basic control over simple grammatical forms.
