Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to give a review about the service provided by your company in moving my furniture and possessions to my new apartment.
I must commend your team for being punctual, they arrived at my former residence at the agreed time. Also they handled every piece of furniture with extra care to avoid damages and scratches, I being a very careful person had expected I would be agitated by the way my properties especially electrical appliances would be handled, but to my greatest surprise, everything was carried with extreme caution.
Also, I will like to specially acknowledge Miss Jenny Smith, who introduced herself as the supervisor of the team, she was very patient, showed a high level of organisation and made the whole process seamless.
The only aspect I was not satisfied with, was the lack of boxes. It was stated on your website while booking, that they will be provided. Sadly this was not the case, I had to get them myself.
Kindly look into this complain, as I would appreciate a feedback on it.
Yours faithfully,
Izere Aigbavboa

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully covers all the required bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain what went well on moving day by highlighting the punctuality of the team and their careful handling of your furniture. You also effectively praise a specific employee, Miss Jenny Smith, for her patience and organizational skills, and you mention the aspect of the service you were unhappy with, namely the missing boxes stated on the website. All parts of the task are addressed with a clear tone and purpose appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher level, the ideas could be extended with slightly more specific details regarding the impact of the missing boxes, which would push the development even further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving smoothly from the opening statement to the positive aspects, the specific praise, the complaint, and finally the concluding request. You use cohesive devices adequately, such as 'Also' and 'The only aspect', to guide the reader through the text. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each main point. To achieve an even higher band, you could incorporate a wider range of sophisticated cohesive transitions and ensure that referencing within complex sentences flows with greater naturalness and minimal reliance on basic connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
Your vocabulary range is adequate and sufficient for the task, allowing you to convey your message with reasonable precision. You attempt some less common items such as 'punctual', 'residence', 'agitated', and 'seamless' with general awareness of style and collocation. However, there are a few lexical and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as writing 'complain' instead of the noun 'complaint', and phrasing like 'I will like to' instead of 'I would like to'. Additionally, expressions like 'review about' could be refined to 'review of'. Improving these word choices and ensuring strict accuracy in spelling will elevate your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully incorporating relative clauses and participial phrases, such as 'who introduced herself as the supervisor of the team' and 'handling every piece of furniture with extra care'. There are frequent error-free sentences, showing good control over basic structures. However, your control slips into some punctuation and comma splice errors, particularly in long sentences such as 'Also they handled every piece of furniture with extra care to avoid damages and scratches, I being a very careful person had expected...' where clauses are improperly joined with commas instead of full stops or conjunctions. Addressing these punctuation habits and sentence boundary issues will help you attain higher grammatical control.
