Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to inform that I recently dealt with P.J movers company to move my belongings and furniture at Kingsville and would like to pen down a feedback as requested.

The company truck was quite massive, providing adequate space to fit in stuff. Workers arrived pretty early than expected. They were hands on while handling all fragile items with zero damage. In no time they truck was loaded to leave for the new loaction.

The team work was highly appreciated but I was really impressed with this staff member named Wissam. As my dad has a language barrier, and Wissam spoke his preferred language, the conversation was way more smoother throught out the moving phase.

However, upon relocationg, we faced an issue with the truck's tyre where it got flattened on the express way. They had to call in for another one which took ample time to arrive and get replaced. This made a little frustrated as I had been a long day for me.

Overall, it was a great experience and I will recommend them to my friends and family.

Kind Regards,

Smith

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response successfully covers all requirements of the task. You clearly explain what went well, such as the early arrival of the workers and their careful handling of fragile items, as seen when you note they were 'hands on while handling all fragile items with zero damage.' You also effectively praise a specific employee, mentioning Wissam and how he bridged the language barrier for your father. Furthermore, the negative aspect regarding the flat tyre on the expressway is properly addressed. The ideas are extended and supported well throughout the letter, reflecting a clear purpose and tone. To reach higher bands, some of the points, such as the disruption caused by the tyre issue, could be slightly more fully extended with details about the overall impact on your schedule.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction to the positive aspects, the employee praise, the negative experience, and finally the conclusion. You use cohesive devices adequately, such as 'However' to introduce the negative aspect and 'Overall' for the summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately and sufficiently to structure the correspondence. To achieve a more advanced band, you could ensure that referencing between sentences is even tighter and employ a wider variety of cohesive devices less mechanically.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task and allows you to communicate your message clearly. You make successful attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'massive', 'adequate space', and 'relocating'. However, there are some lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as writing 'pen down a feedback' instead of 'provide feedback', 'pretty early than expected' instead of 'earlier than expected', and 'loaction' as a spelling slip. Additionally, phrases like 'long day for me' could be phrased more naturally. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight the need for greater precision in word choice and collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'As my dad has a language barrier, and Wissam spoke his preferred language...' effectively. There are some grammar and punctuation errors present, such as missing articles ('the truck' instead of 'they truck', 'on the express way'), prepositions ('deal with P.J movers company... at Kingsville'), and verb forms ('I am writing to inform that' instead of 'inform you that'). However, these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure the meaning of your sentences, reflecting a generally sound control of basic and moderately complex structures.
