Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter regarding the feedback about your service that I took on 30th of September.

I received your moving service on Sunday and it was very good. I wanted to move furniture in my new home and unabled to move alone, then I contacted with you. One thing was very amazing that you provide that service on the support and the staff was fabulous. They moved all the furniture very carefully and by own as well as set all the furniture in the new house.

One of your employees Rajiv was very nice because he helped me a lot. He packed my all suitcases and rapped my all home interior very carefully and moved into the new house. Eventhough, he gave me advice that how I can wrap my glass things and how deal with it. I really appreciate your employee.

One thing, I want to mention that your service was too expensive and I was not satisfied with that because when I searched on the internet about the prices that it showed the less prices and you charged too much from me. I would appreciate if you could decrease in the future and provide reasonable service to everyone.

Thank you so much for your service and I hope you would think about your high prices.

Yours faithfully,

Jagjit Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, addressing each bullet point directly. You clearly explain what went well by mentioning the careful handling of furniture and staff support, praise a specific employee named Rajiv for his assistance with packing, and mention an aspect you were unhappy with regarding the high prices charged compared to online estimates. The overall purpose of the letter is clear and maintained throughout. To achieve a higher band, ideas could be extended further with more specific details or background, rather than moving quickly from one point to the next, which shows a slight tendency to over-generalise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, starting with an appropriate salutation and ending with a formal sign-off. Each main body paragraph addresses a distinct bullet point from the prompt. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or somewhat repetitive in how sentences are linked, such as the repeated use of 'One thing' to introduce new points in the second and fourth paragraphs. While referencing is generally clear, transitioning between ideas could be smoother and more natural to reach the next standard of logical progression and flexible cohesive device usage.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate your message, featuring some less common attempts such as 'fabulous' and 'appreciate'. However, there are several noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation that reflect a limited and somewhat restricted range. For instance, phrases like 'took on' instead of 'received', 'unabled to move alone' instead of 'unable', 'contacted with you' instead of 'contacted you', and 'rapped' instead of 'wrapped' demonstrate inaccuracies. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they prevent the writing from demonstrating the precision and flexibility required for a higher lexical band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at variety with clauses introduced by 'when' and 'that'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include tense and auxiliary issues such as 'you provide that service' instead of 'you provided that service', missing articles like 'in the new home', and preposition errors inside grammatical patterns such as 'advice that how I can' instead of 'advice on how I can'. Punctuation is also occasionally weak, with comma splices present. While these errors rarely impede communication entirely, they are too frequent to allow the text to be considered predominantly error-free.
