Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to provide feedback on the moving service your company recently provided when I relocated to my new apartment.
Overall, I was very pleased with the service, particularly the movers arrived on time and handled my furniture with great care. They worked efficiently thoughout the day, and all the items were loaded and transfer from truck to my home safely without any damage. Moreover, all the workers are polite, knowledgable and cooperative, which made my stressful day much easier.
I was paricularly impressed with one of your young employee, Mr. Smith who was extremely helpful during the move. He carefully wrapped ny personal items, including glassware and electronic equipment and made sure that everything kept on right place in the truck. In addition, he was patience when I asked for extra help for some extra boxes and he delievered very carefully.
However, your expectional service I was slighly disappointed with the delay in delievering some of my belongings. Although the truck arrive on the time at the apartment, it took almost three hours to unload everthing, which was bit frustrating. I believe that having an additional worker would have made the process faster.
Thank you for providing a professaional and helpful moving service. I would be happy ro recommend your company to others.
Yours faithfully,
Darshit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, covering what went well on the moving day, praising an employee, and mentioning an unsatisfactory aspect of the service. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint and feedback letter, and a clear position is maintained throughout. All three bullet points are covered, although some ideas show a slight imbalance in development. For instance, the praise for Mr. Smith is elaborated with specific details such as wrapping glassware and electronic equipment, whereas the negative aspect regarding the three-hour unloading delay is mentioned but could be expanded further with more context about its impact. Nevertheless, the main requirements are fully met, reflecting a solid performance that covers all prompt instructions effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are structured into appropriate paragraphs, starting with an introductory statement, moving through the positive aspects, the employee praise, and the negative feedback, and ending with a polite conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Overall', 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'However', ensuring smooth transitions between paragraphs and ideas. However, referencing and cohesive links are occasionally a bit mechanical. For instance, the transition in the fourth paragraph ('However, your expectional service I was slighly disappointed...') is slightly abrupt and could be blended more naturally. Overall paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to guide the reader through the correspondence.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'relocated', 'efficiently', and 'exceptional service'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors that prevent a higher score. Examples include 'knowledgable', 'patience' instead of patient, 'delievered' instead of delivered, 'expectional' instead of exceptional, and 'slighly' instead of slightly. Furthermore, phrases like 'kept on right place' demonstrate minor collocation inaccuracies. While these errors do not seriously impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout, the frequency of spelling slips keeps the lexical score constrained.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating the ability to construct subordinate clauses using conjunctions such as 'although' and 'which' (e.g., 'which made my stressful day much easier'). There are, however, some recurring errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, there is a tense shift and missing auxiliary in 'particularly the movers arrived on time' instead of 'the movers arrived', and preposition errors such as 'transfer from truck to my home' instead of 'transferred from the truck to my home'. Additionally, comma splices and punctuation slips appear occasionally, such as missing commas after introductory transitional phrases. These errors do not impede overall communication, but their presence alongside mixed structural control places the grammar firmly at this level.
