Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to provide you the feedback about the mover and packer service, which I recently booked online.
I came across your website when I wanted to shift the furniture to my new apartment. I used your service last Monday (Service number: 2536A) to move my furniture from Malviya nagar to Raja Park, which brought immense joy and happiness as everything went well. My furniture was handled correctly to avoid any damage; furthermore, delegated items were paid utmost attention. I would like to mention Rajesh from the ground staff who was not only patiently handling all the items but also helping us with placing them to their correct placements. Moreover, he also arranged the carpenter for assembling our bed and wardrobe. I really wanted to thank him for his helpful nature.
However, there is constructive feedback that I want to mention here regarding punctuality. Although the staff took care of all needful tasks, they arrived an hour late to collect my possesions. Owing to the late setup, I had to reschedule my dinner plan with my family, which was disappointing.
I trust you that you will take necessary actions to resolve this issue.
Yours faithfully,
Craig

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt in a well-developed and clear manner, meeting the standard for this band. You successfully explained what went well on the day, specifically mentioning how the furniture was handled carefully and correctly. Furthermore, you praised a specific employee, Rajesh, detailing his helpful nature and assistance with placing items and arranging a carpenter. You also clearly mentioned the aspect of the service you were dissatisfied with, which was the one-hour delay in the staff arriving and how it impacted your evening plans. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint letter, and all bullet points are covered thoroughly with relevant supporting details, demonstrating a clear and purposeful response throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are structured sensibly, starting with an introduction that states the purpose of the letter, followed by body paragraphs addressing the positive aspects, the praise for the employee, and finally the negative feedback regarding punctuality. Cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'moreover', and 'although' are used effectively to connect ideas, though paragraphing and transitions are managed well enough to ensure the reader follows the narrative easily. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, maintaining coherence from the beginning to the closing sign-off.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, successfully using less common items such as 'immense joy', 'delegated items', and 'constructive feedback'. There is an adequate range for the task, and you attempt less common phrasing with general success. However, there are a few minor lexical and collocational inaccuracies that prevent a higher score, such as 'shift the furniture' instead of 'move', 'patiently handling' instead of 'carefully handling', and 'delegated items' when you likely meant delicate items. Spelling is generally accurate, and your word choices do not impede communication, showing a solid command of everyday formal vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
Your writing displays a good variety of complex structures alongside simple sentence forms, featuring frequent error-free sentences. You handle relative clauses and subordinate clauses well, as seen in sentences like 'I came across your website when I wanted to shift the furniture to my new apartment' and 'Although the staff took care of all needful tasks, they arrived an hour late.' Control of grammar and punctuation is generally good, though a few minor errors persist, such as 'provide you the feedback' (missing a preposition like 'with') and 'placing them to their correct placements' (slightly awkward prepositional usage). Overall, your grammatical control is strong and communication is clear throughout.
