Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing regarding the service that was provided to me by your removal company to move my furniture and belongings to a new house.
The service I got was exceptionally good, they arrived on time and moving was very smooth. The furniture was handled with utmost care. Moreover, the staff was extremely friendly and cooperative.
It took them 30 minutes to load the belongings to the truck and fragile items were also taken with extensive care.
Your staff member Rahul was extremely friendly and took care of everything, he was the one who was supervising everyone and guiding them. He is the most hardworking employee who takes work seriously and delivers a satisfying experience.
I would like to bring in light to the service that I did not like was the delay during the transportation of the furniture. This happened due to the puncture tyre of your vehicle which took a lot of time to repair.
I hope you like my feedback and I will also recommend others to aquire your service
Yours sincerely,
Prabh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your letter successfully covers all the bullet points required in the task instructions. You clearly explain what went well on the day of the move, noting that the staff arrived on time and handled your furniture with utmost care. You also praise a specific employee, Rahul, for his supervision and helpful attitude. Finally, you mention an aspect of the service you were not happy with, specifically the transportation delay caused by a flat tyre. Because you cover all parts of the task with relevant and extended ideas, your response meets the requirements for this band level. However, to reach the next level, some of your points—such as the description of the loading process—could be slightly more fully developed to add greater depth to the overall narrative.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement and a logical progression of ideas. You use clear paragraphing to separate your introduction, the positive aspects of the service, the employee praise, the negative aspect, and your concluding remarks. This earns the lower-band requirements fully. To show features of the higher band, your use of cohesive devices could be more flexible and varied; phrases like 'Moreover' and 'It took them' show a slightly mechanical flow rather than fully seamless linking. Additionally, referencing is generally clear, though occasional tighter ties between sentences would enhance the overall cohesion and help guide the reader through the text more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'exceptionally good', 'utmost care', and 'satisfying experience'. This satisfies the core criteria for this level. However, there are some lexical and spelling inaccuracies that prevent you from reaching a higher band. For instance, the phrase 'bring in light' is unnatural and should be 'bring to light', 'aquire' contains a spelling error and should be 'acquire', and 'puncture tyre' is better phrased as 'punctured tyre' or 'flat tyre'. These minor word-choice and spelling slips do not impede communication, but eliminating them requires greater precision and control over less common vocabulary and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
Your response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The service I got was exceptionally good, they arrived on time...' and 'He is the most hardworking employee who takes work seriously...'. You demonstrate good control over basic structures, and your punctuation is generally sound. However, there are some errors in grammar and sentence structure, such as a comma splice in the first sentence of your second paragraph ('...exceptionally good, they arrived...') and an unnecessary prepositional phrase in 'load the belongings to the truck' (instead of 'onto the truck'). These errors appear occasionally, which is characteristic of this level, but because they rarely impede communication, your grammar remains clear and understandable throughout the letter.
