Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to acknowledege about the services I received from your company.
It was difficult for me to manage all alone such as packing and handling. Training have been provided to your employees in a well manner. I was worried about the kitchen utensils as they are fragile. But, your company workers packed each and everything in an appropriate way.
The girl whose name was Janki was really helpful. She has a good experience in handling all the fragile things. I also gave extra tip to her.
However, the service with which I am not happy is that your trip services from one place to another are only valid for one day. And, if we have to get one more day trip, we have to pay more. For people who need to move multiple things, generally it will take atleast 2 days to do so. Thus, in the fees one pays for the moving should be valid for two days so that one can trip multiple times.
I would appreciate if you amend this policy in your company.
Kind regards.
Sukhman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully addressed all parts of the task by explaining what went well on moving day, praising a helpful employee, and mentioning an aspect of the service you were dissatisfied with. Your position and overall message are clear throughout the letter. The main ideas are extended and supported, such as when you detail your concerns about the fragile kitchen utensils and explain your reasoning regarding the one-day trip policy. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in your policy argument, and some of the supporting ideas could be further developed to push into higher bands. Overall, you met all requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You made good use of paragraphing to separate different points, such as the positive aspects in the second paragraph, the employee praise in the third, and your complaint in the fourth. You used cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'Thus' to connect your ideas, although there is some minor mechanical use of transitions. Referencing is generally clear, allowing the reader to follow your thoughts easily from the opening greeting to the closing sign-off.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You used an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a general correspondence task, including words like 'fragile', 'utensils', and 'appreciate'. You also attempted some less common phrases, but there were some noticeable word choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'acknowledege about the services' instead of 'acknowledge the service', and 'trip services from one place to another' which lacks precision. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'acknowledege'. To improve your lexical score, you need to use a wider and more precise range of vocabulary with correct collocations and accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures. However, there are several grammar errors, such as 'to manage all alone such as packing and handling' and 'Training have been provided... in a well manner' (incorrect subject-verb agreement and preposition use), as well as 'in the fees one pays for the moving should be valid' (structural awkwardness). While these errors do not impede communication, they persist throughout the text and prevent you from achieving a higher band where error-free complex sentences are more frequent.
