Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to provide feedback regarding relocation service provided by your company to shift at my new apartment on last tuesday.

Overall service provided by your team was fantastic and prompt on time. Everything went well as per the schedule including scheduled pickup and scheduled drop off. The way my possessions were handle throughout was spectacularly at par especially the proffesionalism of your team was spot on. The way they packaged and handelled my beloging was quite an applause, especially my books. As the day i moved in to my house it was very easy for me to segregate my belongings as they were very well labelled.

However i am highly impressed by one of your employee Mr. smit since he managed very well with packagin, labelling and spot on timely pickup and drop off service.

Although everything went very well and in an organised manner, I would like to acknowledge few of the points like adding barcode sticker to labels on so that i can scan them before unboxing which further will help me know what's exactly inside box without really opening the box.

Best Regards,

Vinit Shah

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, as you successfully explain what went well on the move, praise a specific employee, and mention an aspect of the service you were unhappy with. However, some parts are only partially developed or slightly confused. For instance, the discussion around what went well is repetitive, mentioning scheduled pickup and drop-off multiple times. Furthermore, your final point regarding the aspect you were unhappy with is framed more as a suggestion or feature request rather than a clear expression of dissatisfaction with a current service flaw. To move to a higher band, you need to ensure all bullet points are fully expanded with clear, distinct ideas and maintain a consistent focus throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a standard letter structure with a greeting and sign-off. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as the general positive feedback, the employee praise, and the final suggestion. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, expressions like 'However i am highly impressed' do not logically function as a contrast to the preceding paragraph of praise, and transitions between sentences can feel abrupt. To achieve a higher score, you should ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and accurately to guide the reader smoothly through a clear logical progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, and you attempt some less common lexical items such as 'spectacularly at par', 'segregate', and 'proffesionalism'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('proffesionalism', 'handelled', 'beloging', 'packagin', 'tuesday') and awkward word choices or collocations ('to shift at my new apartment', 'quite an applause'). These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they highlight inaccuracies in word choice and spelling that prevent you from reaching a higher band. To improve, you need to broaden your control of less common vocabulary and carefully check your spelling and word forms before finalising your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at varied structures. However, there are noticeable errors in grammar, prepositions, and punctuation that recur throughout the text. Examples include 'relocation service provided' lacking an article, 'to shift at my new apartment' using an incorrect preposition, and missing commas before dependent clauses or after introductory phrases. While these errors rarely completely impede understanding, they are frequent enough to keep the response at this level. To reach a higher standard, you should focus on tightening your control over prepositions, articles, and complex sentence structures while eliminating basic punctuation slips.
