Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to give a feedback. I recently got service from Sumitha removal company to move my furniture and possessions. The move was from Melbourne to Adelaide.

Since the start of the move eveything was went well. employees were really strong and well trained. I was worried about one heavy sofa because I had a bad experience from previous removal company. They damaged my front door and sofa. On other hand the crew did a great job moving sofa without damaging it.

I want to thanks to all the members that helped me to move furnitures. In addition to that I am really thankfull to one of your employee named Sumitha. I forgot my cat inside my house when I locked the door. I did not realized until Sumitha mentioned about my cat. I was really lucky that Sumitha rememberd about my cat.

All the moving was really great. However the timing for the move was little unexpected. It was a six hour drive from Melbourne to Adelaide, but the vehicle was late and I had to wait three hours waiting outside.

I am happy with the removal company and the staff and would consider for my next move also.

Kind Regards,

Thilan Senawirathna.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, positive overall view of the company. The successful handling of the sofa, your praise for Sumitha noticing the cat, and the complaint about the late vehicle are all relevant and specific. The examples make the feedback convincing, particularly the contrast with your previous removal experience. The main opportunity to strengthen the response is to develop the service criticism and its impact a little further: you explain that you waited three hours, but could clarify how the company’s communication or arrangements affected you. The closing also says you would consider using the company again, which reinforces your position, though the letter could end with a more direct summary of the feedback.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression: it introduces the move, describes what went well, praises an employee, raises a concern, and closes with your overall opinion. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and connectors such as “In addition to that” and “However” guide the reader through the contrast. This meets the lower-band expectation of a coherent arrangement and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. To make the progression more consistently smooth, avoid repeating the general praise in “All the moving was really great” after already describing the successful move and helpful staff. Some links are also slightly mechanical, and the reference to “the vehicle” could be made more explicit as the removal truck.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes relevant terms such as “removal company,” “damaging,” “crew,” and “unexpected.” These choices allow you to explain the move and the problem clearly, and the reader can understand your meaning throughout. You also attempt more specific language when describing the sofa and the employee’s help. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, including “give a feedback,” “thanks to all the members,” and “the timing for the move.” Spelling errors such as “eveything,” “thankfull,” and “rememberd” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural service-related phrases and check spelling carefully to make your vocabulary more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including the explanation of your concern about the sofa and the sentence beginning “I forgot my cat inside my house.” The main events remain understandable, but grammatical control is uneven, with errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “everything was went well” combines incompatible verb forms, while “I did not realized” should use the base form after “did not.” The sentence “I want to thanks” also has an incorrect infinitive pattern, and “I would consider for my next move” is missing a suitable object construction. Practise checking verb patterns and forming past-tense sentences; more accurate control would make the letter easier to read.
