Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I am writing a letter regarding service which i received from your company.I shifted from delta side to newton centre with the assistance of your company's staff. They removed heavy material including fridge, microwave, couches, beds and other furniture.

I like the service of your main employee called harneet singh because he was so polite and he took the responsiblity to shift whole the things without breaking.due to him,i can manage my other works such preparing food, bringing children from schools, doing grocery and so on.

However, there is one thing which i am not like.although your workers did all work good yet they damaged the floor of previous house which i noticed yesterday.Because of this reason my house owner did not give me full security refund.Nevertheless,i love like your service but you need to guide your employee to pay attension all the things.

Thank you for service, which i really apparicate.

Your sincerely,

Veerpal Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you describe the move, praise Harneet Singh for taking responsibility and helping you manage other tasks, and explain that the previous home’s floor was damaged, affecting your security refund. These details make the feedback relevant and give the complaint a clear reason. The praise and the problem are both understandable, though the description of what went well is less developed than the complaint: you could explain more specifically how the team handled the furniture or completed the move. The letter also communicates your overall view, but the closing request to guide staff is vague. To strengthen the response, state clearly what action or improvement you would like the company to make.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter follows a sensible overall sequence: you introduce the move, describe the helpful employee, then raise the damage and conclude with your opinion. The contrast marker “However” helps signal the change from praise to criticism, and the final thanks gives the letter a recognisable ending. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical, particularly “Nevertheless, i love like your service,” which makes it difficult to follow how the praise relates to the complaint. The long opening paragraph also combines several points without clear separation. Use distinct paragraphs for the positive feedback and the problem, and make links between ideas more precise—for example, explain directly that despite the helpful service, the floor damage affected your refund.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the situation, including “removal company,” “furniture,” “security refund,” and “responsibility.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the message awkward: “shift whole the things,” “did all work good,” and “i love like your service.” There are also spelling errors such as “responsiblity,” “attension,” and “apparicate.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Build a small set of accurate phrases for moving services and feedback, such as “handled my belongings carefully” and “the floor was damaged during the move,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example with “because” and “although,” and the reader can generally understand the sequence of events. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors in basic patterns occur throughout. Examples include “I shifted from delta side to newton centre,” “he took the responsiblity to shift whole the things,” and “one thing which i am not like.” The final sentence, “Nevertheless, i love like your service but you need to guide your employee to pay attension all the things,” contains several grammatical problems that obscure the intended meaning. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and simple clause patterns first, then add complex sentences. Also check capitalisation and punctuation, especially sentence boundaries and the pronoun “I.”
