Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing my feedback about the service that your team provided me recently. Last week, I hired some employees from your establishment to move my furniture and belongings to my new apartment. Firstly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to your dedicated staff members who reached on time, which helped us to complete our moving before evening.

During our moving, Rahul was a highly capable individual with skills in managing the team and organizing tasks in an appropriate manner, which assist to complete the work effectively without any trouble. One thing that really helped was his weight lifting skills, he was lifting heavy items too easily.

Unfortunately, your staff have broken my one mirror because they replaced it on wrong location. In light of this issue, I would suggest that they must inform the owner to allocate the objects before placing them. I trust you will take this feedback into consideration.

Once again, thank you for your service.

Yours sincerely,

Ramandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requested points: it says the team arrived on time and completed the move before evening, praises Rahul’s organisation and physical effort, and reports that a mirror was broken. The complaint is accompanied by a practical suggestion to ask owners where items should be placed, so the purpose is clear and the tone remains appropriately courteous. The praise is specific enough to identify Rahul’s contribution, although the description of his lifting ability could be linked more directly to how it improved the service. The explanation of the mirror incident is also somewhat unclear: clarify whether it was broken while being moved or placed in the wrong location, and state what resolution you would like. This would make the ideas more fully developed and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression from its purpose, to positive feedback, to the problem and a suggested improvement, followed by a polite closing. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Unfortunately,” and “Once again” help the reader follow the shift in tone. The main weakness is that some links between ideas are awkward or unclear. For example, the sentence about Rahul’s management skills and completing the work is long, while “One thing that really helped” does not clearly specify what it helped with. The mirror sentence also leaves the relationship between its being broken and being placed in the wrong location uncertain. Use clearer references and divide or connect these ideas more precisely to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a formal feedback letter, including phrases such as “sincere gratitude,” “highly capable,” “organizing tasks,” and “take this feedback into consideration.” These choices communicate appreciation and criticism appropriately. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural word combinations that limit precision: “reached on time” would be more naturally expressed as “arrived on time,” and “weight lifting skills” is not the best way to describe handling furniture. “Replaced it on wrong location” is also unclear and does not convey the intended placement naturally. Aim for precise service-related collocations and avoid overly formal wording where a simpler phrase is more idiomatic. The meaning remains understandable, but more natural phrasing would strengthen the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes both simple sentences and longer structures, including a relative clause in “staff members who reached on time” and a conditional-style suggestion beginning “I would suggest that…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. In “which assist to complete,” the verb form does not agree with the past-time context; “which helped us complete” would be accurate. The sentence “One thing that really helped was his weight lifting skills, he was lifting…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma, so it should be separated or linked with a conjunction. In “they must inform the owner to allocate,” the structure after “suggest” needs adjustment, for example, “I suggest that staff ask the owner to identify where items should go.” More consistent control of verb forms and sentence boundaries would improve accuracy.
