Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to provide feedback on the moving service your company offered when I recently moved to my new apartment.
I was happy with your service. Your team arrived on time and worked very well. They packed my things carefully and moved all my furniture carefully. Nothing was broken or damaged. What is more, they finished work on time, which made my move easy and stress-free.
I would especially like to praise one of your employees. He was very kind and helpful. To be more precise, he helped me carry heavy furniture and take care of my fragile items. He answered all my questions very politely. i really appreciated his help.
However, I was not happy that there were not enough packing boxes. Because of this, I bought extra boxes by myself. This caused some problems and wasted my time.
Apart from this small issue, I was satisfied with your service. I would recommend your company to my friends and family.
Yours faithfully,
Kawalpreet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter clearly addresses all three requested points: it describes punctual arrival, careful handling and timely completion; praises an employee’s assistance with heavy and fragile items; and identifies the shortage of packing boxes as a problem. The purpose and polite tone are clear throughout, and the closing recommendation adds a suitable final comment. Supporting details such as having to buy extra boxes explain the inconvenience, while the praise is specific enough to feel relevant. To strengthen the response further, develop the complaint slightly—for example, explain whether the company had promised to supply a particular number of boxes or how the shortage affected the move beyond costing time. Overall, the required information is covered clearly and appropriately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The information is organised in a clear sequence: an opening stating the purpose, a paragraph on what went well, a separate paragraph praising the employee, and then the complaint and conclusion. This makes the letter easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “What is more,” “To be more precise,” and “However” help signal the relationship between ideas, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal feedback letter. Some connections are a little formulaic, and the repeated use of “carefully” in the service paragraph makes the progression less varied. You could combine or vary these details and use more natural transitions between the praise and the complaint. Nevertheless, the overall progression is logical and clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and communicates the main points clearly, with useful phrases such as “fragile items,” “stress-free,” and “wasted my time.” The tone is generally suitable for a formal letter. However, much of the wording is common and repetitive: “helpful,” “carefully,” “service,” and “happy” carry several key ideas without much variation. “Moved all my furniture carefully” is understandable but could be expressed more precisely, and “take care of my fragile items” is less natural in this context than a phrase such as “handle my fragile belongings.” Aim to use a broader range of precise service-related vocabulary and collocations. These limitations do not prevent understanding, but they restrict the flexibility and precision of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The letter shows a useful mix of sentence forms, including simple statements and a complex sentence with “which”: “they finished work on time, which made my move easy and stress-free.” Most sentences are clear and grammatically controlled, and the past tense is generally appropriate when describing the move. There is one noticeable punctuation and capitalization slip in “i really appreciated his help,” where the pronoun should be capitalised. The sentence patterns are otherwise mostly straightforward, so the response would benefit from more varied complex structures, such as a conditional or a relative clause to explain the impact of the missing boxes. Overall, grammar supports clear communication, with a small error and room to broaden structural range.
