Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude that you moved my furniture and possessions to my new apartment with care. I would like to give you the feedback about the service you provided.
Firstly, I would like to thank you for completing the delivery of my belongings on time. Everything was done with utmost care and precaution on the given day. For instance, truck condition and size was suitable, the insurance documents were complete, and the truck was equiped with necessory accessories like ropes. Moreover, Mr Smith, a young boy with a light beard has done excellent job in managing the workers to upload the furniture and arranging it as it should be.
Inspite of all the things mentioned above, I am specially concerned about the corners of my furniture as there were not any cushions available in the truck. I hope you will provide cushions in the future.
Happy to have your service!
Yours faithfully,
Akif Mazhar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requested points: it describes punctual delivery and careful handling, praises Mr Smith’s role in coordinating the workers, and identifies the lack of protective cushions as a concern. The positive feedback is supported with concrete details, such as the truck’s suitability and the completed insurance documents. The criticism is also clear and includes a reasonable request for future service. To make the response more fully developed, explain the practical effect of the missing cushions—for example, whether any furniture was scratched or whether you were worried about damage. The opening and closing are appropriate for a formal letter, although the salutation should match the task’s specified “Dear Sir or Madam,”.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear progression: purpose, positive aspects, a specific employee’s contribution, and then the concern. Paragraphing helps distinguish the praise from the complaint, while “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “In spite of” guide the reader through the points. The examples in the second paragraph are grouped logically, and the final request makes the desired improvement easy to understand. Some linking is a little formulaic, and the list of truck details interrupts the flow slightly. You could improve cohesion by grouping related details into a smoother sentence and using a more natural transition into the complaint. Overall, the organisation is clear and the reader can follow the message without difficulty.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for a formal service-feedback letter, and phrases such as “with utmost care,” “insurance documents,” and “particularly concerned” show an attempt to use precise language. Meaning remains clear throughout. However, several word choices, collocations, and spelling forms are inaccurate or unnatural: “upload the furniture” should be “load” or “unload,” “equiped” and “necessory” are misspelled, and “Happy to have your service!” sounds too informal and unnatural in this context. “Young boy with a light beard” is also an unnecessary description and does not explain why Mr Smith deserves praise. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and a consistently formal register.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the example introduced by “For instance” and the contrast beginning “In spite of all the things mentioned above.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the errors do not prevent understanding. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain: “truck condition and size was suitable” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “has done excellent job” needs an article and a verb form that fits the past event. The sentence about Mr Smith also becomes awkwardly structured as it combines his description with his actions. Review agreement, articles, and tense consistency, and try to keep longer sentences controlled. This would build on the range already present and improve accuracy.
