Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to give my honest review on the last service your company rendered to me last week Friday.I was generally pleased with the punctuallity of the staff and I admired the way your company responded within a short notice.

On that very day, your workers made sure they arrived at the venu in time, and started with their work as soon as posible. They were fast, careful, and friendly. What surprised me the most is their level of attention to details, especially one of your staff Godwin who saved my wife's cherished mirror from breaking, while he was working he noticed that my child was playing around my wife's room and had his attention on him, this contiued until we went close to the side the mirror was placed and almost pushed it down, Godwin who was initally paying close attention to him and he quickly rushed and saved the Mirror from damging as well as my child from getting injured.

The area I think your company needs to improve on is the convaying van, I feel if it was bigger it would have helped the workers and provided a better service to your costmers.

Yours faithfully,

Emela..

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requested points: it describes the punctual, quick and careful service, praises Godwin for protecting the mirror and child, and identifies the van’s size as a concern. The example about Godwin gives the praise a clear, personal basis, while the opening establishes the writer’s generally positive view. The complaint is relevant, but it is less fully developed than the positive feedback: explain briefly how the van’s limited capacity affected the move, such as requiring extra trips or slowing the work. The purpose and tone remain clear throughout, and the response gives the company useful feedback. To strengthen the letter further, make the requested improvement more specific and connect it directly to the experience.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information follows a sensible order: you introduce the purpose, describe what went well, give a specific example of helpful service, and finish with the area for improvement. This makes the letter easy to follow overall. The detailed account of Godwin, however, is packed into one very long sentence, so the sequence of events becomes difficult to track. Break it into shorter sentences and use clear references to the mirror, your child and the employee. Paragraphing could also be more deliberate, with separate paragraphs for the positive experience, the complaint and the closing. The links between ideas are generally understandable, but more controlled sentence boundaries and paragraphing would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary to describe the service, including “punctuality,” “attention to details,” “cherished mirror” and “provided a better service.” These choices communicate your positive experience and the specific concern. However, several spelling errors and awkward word combinations reduce precision, including “punctuallity,” “venu,” “convaying van” and “costmers.” Some expressions are also less natural in this context: “review on” and “responded within a short notice” would be better phrased as “feedback on” and “responded at short notice.” Aim for accurate spelling and natural collocations, especially in the complaint, so the reader can focus on the substance of your feedback rather than decoding the wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter attempts both simple and more complex structures, for example, “I am writing this letter to give my honest review” and the sentence explaining how Godwin noticed the child near the mirror. The meaning is generally recoverable, but the long sentence about the incident contains several clauses joined without clear grammatical boundaries, making the relationships between actions unclear. There are also errors in sentence construction and punctuation, such as the run-on after “last week Friday” and the incomplete construction “Godwin who was initially paying close attention to him and he quickly rushed.” Divide this account into complete sentences and check that each clause has a clear subject and verb. More accurate control of complex sentences would improve clarity.
