Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for going out of your way to make things easier for me when i needed assistance the most.

I was deeply concerned about the situation of my furniture, and all other valuable belongings especially my pet dog (Reo) during the shifting, but the way my glass furniture as well as fragile antique items of decoration were packed is highly appreciable. In addition, Reo was very active, and happy even after 12 hours of long travel, which was previously very challenging thought of shifting for me.

I particularly express my gratitude to Mr. Mark, a senior employee of your company who took great care of Reo during journey by feeding him on time, and taking him on short walks in between to relieve himself. Moreover, he packed all my brittle items so carefully that none of them even had a single scratch after reaching the desination.

Apart from this, one service which caused considerable inconvenience and fallen well below my expectations is managing the record of packed items. After shifting, I wanted to make up my kitchen first, but there was no any label which could help to identify the packaged of kitchen material. However, all the packaged were packed with items belongs to different corners of house.

Given the inconvenience caused, I believe a suitable resolution for the same from next time to avoid such troubles.

Yours faithfully,

pratibha Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three requested points: you describe the careful handling of fragile furniture and your dog, praise Mr Mark’s care, and identify the lack of labels as a problem. The examples about feeding Reo and taking him for walks make the praise specific, while the difficulty finding kitchen items explains the inconvenience clearly. The letter also maintains an appropriate formal tone and includes a suitable opening and closing. To make the response more fully developed, clarify the final request: “a suitable resolution … from next time” does not specify what action you want the company to take. A direct request for better labelling or an explanation would complete the purpose of the feedback more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear overall progression: you begin with thanks, describe what went well, single out an employee, and then introduce the service problem. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and transitions such as “In addition,” “Moreover,” and “Apart from this” help connect the points. Some linking is less effective where ideas are joined without a clear relationship; for example, “However” does not clearly contrast with the preceding sentence about the packages. The final sentence also feels disconnected because it does not clearly state what resolution you are requesting. Use transitions only when their logical function is clear, and make the closing request follow directly from the complaint.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a reasonably varied vocabulary, including “fragile antique items,” “considerable inconvenience,” and “below my expectations,” which helps convey both appreciation and dissatisfaction. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “brittle items” and “valuable belongings.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “situation of my furniture,” “make up my kitchen,” and “the packaged of kitchen material.” Spelling errors such as “desination” also reduce precision. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but more natural phrasing and careful proofreading would make the letter more fluent and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including longer sentences with subordinate clauses, as in the description of Mr Mark’s help. However, errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are frequent enough to affect fluency. For example, “there was no any label” should be “there were no labels,” and “all the packaged were packed with items belongs to different corners” has problems with plural forms and clause structure. The final sentence, “I believe a suitable resolution for the same from next time to avoid such troubles,” is incomplete because it lacks a main verb. Review agreement, articles, and complete sentence structure, and check punctuation and capitalisation, including the lowercase “i.”
