Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to share my feedback about the removal service your team provided when I shifted my belongings to my new flat last Tuesday.

Overall the moving process went very smoothly. Your crew arrived on time at 8:00 A.M. They handled all my heavy furniture and fragile boxes with great care. Everything was loaded and unloaded efficiently without any major damage, and the entire transfer was completed much faster than I expected.

I want to give special praise to Mr. Mark, the team leader. He was polite, energetic and extremely helpful. He noticed my large wardrobe was too tight for the hallway, but hu carefully dismantled and resemble it without a scratch. His calm attitude made a stressful day much easier.

However, there was one issue that disappointed me. The customer service hotline was unhelpful when I was tried to confirm my booking details the day before the move. I had to wait on hold over 30 minutes and the representatives seemed rushed and confused about my schedule.

I hope you can improve your phone support, but I still appreciate the hard work of the moving crew on site.

YOURS FAITHFULLY

Alex

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.5

The letter covers all three requested points clearly: it describes the crew arriving on time and handling belongings carefully, praises the team leader’s help with the wardrobe, and explains the problem with the booking hotline. The positive and negative feedback is supported with relevant detail, such as the move being completed faster than expected and the long wait to confirm the booking. The purpose and tone are appropriate for a company feedback letter, and the closing also balances the complaint with appreciation for the crew. To make the response even more complete, clarify the employee’s name or use a natural form of address, and make the requested improvement to phone support slightly more specific. Overall, the task is addressed thoroughly, with only minor opportunities to refine detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 8.0

The information is arranged in a clear sequence: purpose, positive account of the move, praise for an employee, the service problem, and a concluding comment. Paragraphing separates these functions effectively, and transitions such as “Overall,” “However,” and “but” make the shift from praise to criticism easy to follow. The final sentence also reconnects the complaint with appreciation, giving the letter a coherent ending. Cohesion is generally well managed, though a few links could be smoother: the move-day account and the employee’s contribution could be connected more explicitly, and the final paragraph could distinguish the requested improvement from the appreciation more cleanly. These are small refinements to an otherwise logical and appropriately paragraphed letter.

Lexical Resource: Band 7.0

The vocabulary is varied enough to describe both the move and the service issue precisely. Phrases such as “handled … with great care,” “calm attitude,” and “wait on hold” suit the context, while “dismantled” adds useful specificity. There are, however, occasional word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems that prevent consistently natural expression. “When I shifted my belongings” is less idiomatic than “when I moved,” and “resemble it” appears to be an incorrect word choice for putting the wardrobe back together. “Hu” is also a spelling error. “Mr. Mark” sounds unnatural as a name form; use “Mark” or “Mr. [surname].” More consistently natural collocations and careful proofreading would strengthen the precision of the vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

The letter uses a useful mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “He noticed …, but …” and the subordinate clause “when I was tried to confirm my booking details.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and punctuation generally supports the organisation. A few grammatical errors remain. In “when I was tried to confirm,” the verb pattern should be “when I tried to confirm”; “was tried” is not appropriate here. In “he … dismantled and resemble it,” the coordinated verbs need consistent past-tense forms, and the sentence needs the correct verb for reassembling the wardrobe. There is also an extra space before “completed” and inconsistent capitalisation in the sign-off. Correcting these points while retaining the varied sentence structures would improve accuracy.
