Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in regards to provide the feedback about the service I received from your organisation last week.

To begin with, since I am a cook, I have a lot of fancy fragile crockery and I was extremely concerned about the movement of that particularly. On Sunday, when I had to leave the old house, I was amazed with the process of packing my furniture and possessions by your employees. Additionally, they were just absolutely perfect in dividing the items and adding them to the boxes, according to the house sections such as kitchen, living area and bedroom.

Specifically, one of your employees is really a gem of a person, Robin Nagar, As I was trying to help them and I was almost about to step on a broken piece of glass vase accidentally; however, Robin came suddenly and pulled my hand towards him and saved me from getting hurt badly. I could not thank him enough.

As a result, I was greatly pleased with your service, except the only factor that is you do not have an online website, where I could find and book the service beforehand. Not only I had to struggle for finding your number, but reaching at your location was a big task. As a result, I would highly recommend you to create an online website, so people could book your service according to their convenience.

I really appreciate your service and hope you will take my suggestions into consideration.

Sincerely,

Shobhna Verma

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0

The letter covers all three requested points clearly and in an appropriate formal tone. You explain that the packing and sorting went well, describe Robin’s intervention when you were at risk of stepping on broken glass, and identify the lack of an online booking website as the aspect you would like improved. The praise is specific and supported by an incident, while your suggestion gives the company a practical response to the problem. The opening and closing also suit a letter to an organisation. To make the response even more complete, clarify the connection between the broken vase and the packing process, and explain briefly how the website issue affected arranging the move. Overall, the required ideas are well developed and relevant.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: it introduces the purpose, describes the moving-day service, highlights Robin’s help, and then raises a concern before closing politely. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Specifically,” and “As a result” help the reader follow the points. There is some overuse of “As a result,” however, and the transition into the website complaint would be clearer without it. The long sentence about the broken glass also combines several actions with “however,” making the sequence harder to follow. Use a full stop or a more direct connector there, and vary the linking phrases so that the organisation remains clear without sounding formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 7.0

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the move and express appreciation, including “fragile crockery,” “dividing the items,” “a gem of a person,” and “take my suggestions into consideration.” These choices make the letter specific and generally maintain a suitable tone. Some phrases are less natural or precise, such as “in regards to provide the feedback,” “movement of that,” and “reaching at your location.” “Absolutely perfect” is also rather emphatic for formal feedback. Aim for more conventional collocations and precise wording, particularly when describing the service and the difficulty of booking it. This would make your vocabulary sound more fluent and controlled while preserving the clear meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You attempt a range of sentence forms, including subordinate clauses and a conditional-style suggestion, and the main message remains clear. Several sentences are grammatically controlled, such as “I could not thank him enough.” However, some errors remain in sentence construction and punctuation. “I am writing in regards to provide” does not form a correct grammatical pattern; use “I am writing to provide feedback.” In the Robin paragraph, the sentence beginning “As I was trying to help them” is joined to another clause with a comma and “however,” creating a faulty structure. The sentence beginning “Not only I had to struggle” also needs inversion after “Not only”: “Not only did I have to struggle…” Review clause boundaries, inversion, and punctuation to improve accuracy.
