Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this to share my review about your house shifting service. I find it helpful and budget friendly.

I would like to appreciate the staff's behaviour and their punctuality. I was initially worried about their reporting time. Because, the society had permitted me to access lift for shifting process only till 2pm. However, your employees came exactly at 12pm and packed everything on time and was able to move-out large and heavy items through lift by 2pm.

Additionally, there was a worker named Sandeep, I loved his energy and quick responses to the situations. There were few items left in the house post 2pm. Sandeep carried it through stairs without wasting time. I think he deserves appreciation.

The service was on point and the workers were motivated. However, I would like to highlight one dissatisfactory aspect that was uninformed absense of one worker. I paid for 5 workers, but only 4 arrived and 1 was absent without any prior information. So, I am expecting the company to refund me the balance amount.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Owais Ansari

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose: you describe the punctual arrival and timely use of the lift, praise Sandeep’s help, and explain your dissatisfaction about the missing worker. The specific details—such as the 2 p.m. lift deadline and Sandeep carrying items upstairs—make the account convincing. Your request for a refund also gives the letter a clear outcome. To develop the response further, explain briefly how the absent worker affected the service or the amount you paid, so the complaint and requested remedy are more fully supported. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with some room to extend the reasoning behind the complaint and praise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear progression from its purpose, to what went well, to Sandeep’s contribution, and finally to the complaint and refund request. Paragraphing supports this structure, and linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “However” help signal the shifts between ideas. The sequence of events around the lift deadline is also easy to follow. At times, however, the connections feel slightly mechanical, and the opening paragraph is very brief compared with the later sections. You could make the flow more natural by linking the punctuality and lift details directly, and by using clearer reference when moving from the general praise to the specific example of Sandeep.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes some useful expressions, such as “punctuality,” “prior information,” and “deserves appreciation.” The reader can understand both the positive feedback and the complaint. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for a formal letter: “house shifting service,” “reporting time,” and “uninformed absense” do not express the intended meanings naturally. “I loved his energy” is also more conversational than the rest of the letter. These attempts at more specific vocabulary show range, but collocation and word form are not consistently controlled. Choose conventional service-related phrases and check spelling to make the tone more precise and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast introduced by “However” and the explanation of the lift deadline. Meaning remains clear throughout. Some grammatical errors are present, though, and they affect accuracy: “I find it helpful” shifts into the present when describing a completed service, while “packed everything on time and was able to move-out” has an unclear subject and agreement. The fragment “Because, the society…” should be joined to the preceding sentence, and “There were few items” needs an article. Review tense consistency, sentence boundaries, and subject–verb agreement. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control without sacrificing the clear message.
