Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to provide my valuable feedback on the service that i received from you company last week.
To begin with, i was very happy with the service as everything went hassle free on moving day. Most importantly, we were able to move all stuff in given time that owner has told us without damaging their property like elevator edges, door knobs and door edges too. Your employees paid keen attention to my instructions and generously worked on all those.
I really want to praise one of your employees named Jacob, he was very polite, kind and harworking. He dismantled all the sofas and beds carefully by himself only and kept all its screws and parts properly so that they can be constructed well later on. He also made everyone work effeciently so that i do not loose time and make shifting process continue to next day.
The only thing that pinched me during whole shifting is that your employees arrived an hour late if they would have arrived earlier on time, it could have been much stress free.
Thankyou very much for your help!
Yours truly,
Manpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose. You explain that the move was completed within the expected time and that belongings and the property were handled carefully; you also identify Jacob and describe his dismantling and organising work. The late arrival is a specific, relevant criticism, and the closing remains courteous. These details extend the main points rather than merely listing them. To make the response more fully developed, clarify the positive outcome of Jacob’s efforts and explain more precisely how the delay affected you; the final complaint currently ends with a general comment that the move could have been less stressful.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: an opening purpose, a paragraph on what went well, praise for an employee, and a final paragraph about the problem. This makes the letter easy to follow, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “Most importantly” help signal the progression. The paragraphing also separates the different parts of the task effectively. Some linking is less controlled, however: the long sentence beginning “Most importantly” combines several details, while “The only thing that pinched me” is an abrupt transition into the complaint. Use a clearer contrast marker such as “However” and divide the longer sentence so each point is easier to process.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a service-feedback letter, including “dismantled,” “instructions,” “carefully,” and “stress free.” These choices communicate the events and your evaluation clearly, and the tone is generally suitable. Some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “move all stuff,” “pinched me,” and “make shifting process continue to next day.” There are also spelling errors, including “harworking,” “effeciently,” and “loose,” which reduce the precision of the writing. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe the delay as “caused inconvenience” rather than saying it “pinched” you.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both straightforward statements and attempts at more complex sentences, such as the conditional explanation of how an earlier arrival would have helped. The main meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include “i received from you company” (capitalisation and possessive form), “the owner has told us” (tense and reference), and “if they would have arrived earlier” (conditional structure). The sentence about Jacob also shifts between “he,” “its,” and “they,” making the reference unclear. Practise accurate conditional forms and consistent pronoun reference, and use full stops to separate ideas when a sentence becomes long. These changes would improve control without sacrificing sentence variety.
