Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your help to move my furniture and possessions to my new home. I am writing my feedback on the service have recieved from your company.

The most positive aspect of your company is the punctuality of your employees, as they arrived at the job site in the early morning, due to which they were able to complete the work before evening.

I was really impressed with the Sam 'one of your employee', who was working with planning and creativity. He even gave me suggestions about the furniture set up in the new house.

Conversely, I was disappointed with the size of the truck you sent. Eventhough, your employees did a job but if you could sent a bigger truck, the whole load could be moved at once. i hope you will be able to send bigger truck in future services.

overall, the service was efficient and smooth.

yours faithfully,

Gurdial Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requested points: you describe the movers’ punctuality and finishing before evening, praise Sam for his planning and suggestions, and explain that the truck was too small. The purpose is clear and the tone is generally appropriate for a feedback letter. Your ideas are supported with relevant details, particularly the benefit of completing the move in one day. To make the response more fully developed, explain the practical effect of the truck’s size—for example, whether it required extra trips or caused a delay—and state more directly what you would like the company to do. Also use the requested opening, “Dear Sir or Madam,” rather than “Dear Sir.” These refinements would make the letter more complete and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear progression: it introduces the feedback, describes what went well, recognises Sam’s contribution, raises a concern, and closes with an overall assessment. Paragraphing helps distinguish the positive and negative points, while connectors such as “Conversely” make the change in focus easy to follow. Some linking is less natural or precise, however. “Due to which” makes the relationship between punctuality and finishing before evening sound awkward, and “Eventhough” does not connect smoothly to the request for a larger truck. The final overall comment also feels slightly detached from the complaint. Use simpler, more direct links and connect the closing assessment to the specific feedback to make the progression more seamless.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including “punctuality,” “impressed,” “creativity,” and “efficient and smooth.” These choices communicate the main points, and the reader can understand the complaint about the truck. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “working with planning and creativity,” “furniture set up,” and “the whole load could be moved at once.” “Job site” is also less natural than “at my home” in this context. Spelling and form need attention in “Eventhough” and “recieved.” Aim for more precise service-related phrases, such as “well organised,” “furniture arrangement,” and “make a single trip,” while checking spelling and standard word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the clause beginning “as they arrived” and the conditional request “if you could send a bigger truck.” Meaning remains clear overall, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “Thank you for your help to move” needs a more suitable pattern such as “help moving”; “the service have recieved” has an incorrect verb form; and “one of your employee” has a singular/plural agreement problem. In “if you could sent,” the verb after “could” should be in its base form. Capitalisation and punctuation also need care, particularly the lowercase “i,” “overall,” and “yours faithfully.” Review verb forms, articles, and sentence punctuation to improve accuracy while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
