Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to inform you that your team is doing great job. I hired people from your company to shift my furniture to my new house. They helped me a lot in everything.

I called at your office on 23rd October to reserved a truck and two guys for moving on 29 October. I was really happy because they came on time as promised and helped me a lot in loading all the stuff. They were so kind and helpful. At the destination, they unload all my stuff very carefully and mindfully. But unfortunatly they broke my favourite mirror. I was so disappointed.

I would like you gave my positive feedback on their service as they were very professional and helpful in their profession. I woudnot blame them for that unattentional mistake However, that mirror was really important for me. All and all i highly this company to everyone not only because of their service but also because of their afforable prices.

Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You cover the main requested points: the movers arrived on time and handled the belongings carefully, you praise the team, and you mention that your mirror was broken. However, the employee who was particularly helpful is not identified or described individually; the praise is directed at the team as a whole. The complaint is also not fully clear in its purpose: you say you would not blame the movers, but do not explain whether you expect an apology, compensation, or simply want the company to know. Some details, such as the booking dates, are relevant, but the feedback and requested outcome need fuller development. Make your position clearer and address each bullet point more specifically.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the reason for writing, describe the move, then give your feedback and recommendation. The contrast introduced by “But” helps signal the problem, and the closing is appropriate for a formal letter. This coherent arrangement meets the lower-band expectations well and shows some progression. To make the organisation more polished, separate the positive experience and the damaged mirror into distinct paragraphs, and use clearer links between the booking, the move, and your evaluation. The final paragraph combines praise, the complaint, and a recommendation, so its purpose becomes less focused. More precise referencing would also help readers follow who was helpful and who was responsible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main events and evaluation, including “on time,” “carefully,” “disappointed,” and “professional.” There are also attempts at more specific wording, such as “loading” and “destination.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce naturalness: “shift my furniture,” “mindfully,” “unattentional mistake,” and “afforable prices” are not appropriate or accurate in this context. Repetition of “helpful” and “a lot” also limits flexibility. Aim for more precise service-related expressions and check spelling carefully; this will make the letter sound more fluent and professional without changing its meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple statements and some longer sentences, and the main events are generally understandable. However, control is uneven, particularly in verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “to reserved” should use the infinitive form, “they unload” needs a past-tense verb, and “I would like you gave” does not form a correct request. There are also errors in articles and punctuation, as in “doing great job” and the run-on transition before “However.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although the overall message remains clear. Practise accurate past-tense narration and standard request forms, and divide longer sentences with appropriate punctuation.
