Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am Anjali Patel, who recently used your service for moving the furniture. I am writing this letter to express my satisfaction and provide review to your service.

To begin with, I am really pleased to have this opportunity to appreciate the service. I booked 'movers and packers' on 10th of October. Initially, I was over-whelmed due to expensive and valuable items to be broken. However, on the day of moving, I observed that employees were working professionally and they carefully handled my possessions.

There were almost three workers, but I really praise the incredible role of Rahul. He was supportive and honest. Accidently, he broke a lamp, which I bought from overseas. However, I loved his loyalty when he revealed his mistake.

Sadly, I really regret to inform you that transport service was not convenient. It took almost 2 hours for a short distance, which should be amended. Finally, the overall experience was commendable.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Anjali

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a clear, appropriately formal purpose. You describe careful handling of possessions, identify Rahul as particularly helpful, and explain that the journey took two hours despite the short distance. The detail that he admitted breaking your lamp gives the praise a specific basis, while also making the complaint understandable. To strengthen the response further, develop the service criticism with a little more context—for example, explain how the delay affected your move or what improvement you would expect. The positive points are clear and relevant, though some are stated briefly rather than fully extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information is arranged in a clear sequence: the reason for writing, what happened during the move, praise for an employee, and a concern about transport. Paragraphing supports this progression, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “However,” and “Sadly” help the reader follow the shift from praise to criticism. The closing is also suitable for a formal letter. At times, the linking feels slightly formulaic, and “Finally” introduces a positive summary after the complaint without explaining the relationship between the two points. Use transitions more selectively and connect the overall assessment directly to the specific strengths and drawback for smoother cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the task, including relevant expressions such as “handled my possessions,” “supportive and honest,” and “overall experience was commendable.” These choices communicate the main points, and the attempt to use more formal language suits a feedback letter. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however: “provide review to your service” and “expensive and valuable items to be broken” do not express the intended meaning naturally. “Transport service was not convenient” is also vague when the specific issue is a slow journey. Aim for precise, natural phrases and check spelling and word forms, including “Accidently,” to make the message more polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, such as “I am Anjali Patel, who recently used your service” and the sentence explaining Rahul’s admission after breaking the lamp. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “I am Anjali Patel, who recently used” has an awkward relative-clause construction; “I booked ‘movers and packers’ on 10th of October” is missing an article before the date phrase; and “items to be broken” does not form a clear grammatical expression of your concern. Review clause construction, articles, and infinitive or passive patterns. Greater control of these structures would make the letter more fluent while preserving its range.
