Student answer (Band 6.5)

Buying fancy and trendy clothes is a new trend. In some parts of the world, people purchase too many clothes compared to their need. There are many reasons behind this and also way to make them understand to buy clothes they need only, which will be discussed in forthcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, there are couple of reasons why people are buying too many clothes these days. Firstly, use of social media has increased a lot nowadays, therefore number of social media influencers has increased too. Just to get the public's attention and followers, they purchase cloth, post a video and probably never use it again, as their primary goal is to look different and show their cool lifestyle. Moreover, it has become a trend between youngsters to wear trending clothes. And presently, we have new trend every other week. So they keep buying new clothes instead of reusing the old ones.

However, these could be prevented if some necessary steps are taken. For example, if parents teach their kids the importance of money. And explain them to spend money where it matters like on their studies and trying new experiences, kids will learn this at a very early age and will not make a mistake of buying lots of clothes later in their life. Furthermore, there should be influencers who teach people to buy very few clothes and make the most number of pairs by reusing it. For example, if a person purchase a blue jeans pant, he can wear it with almost any color shirt or t-shirt. If people have this kind of knowledge, they will stop buying too many clothes.

To conclude, because of social media influencers and trending fashion which changes every other week, people buy far too many clothes, but if parents will explain their kids what should be done instead, there are few chances they will make this mistake again. And there should be people who explains others a way to reuse their clothes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for excessive clothing consumption and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of social media and the role of parental education. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the suggestion that 'influencers should teach people to buy very few clothes' is a bit simplistic and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations or concrete examples. The position is clear throughout, and the response covers all requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, though the connection between the final paragraph and the preceding arguments could be smoother. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication. You use some topic-specific terms like 'social media influencers' and 'trending fashion'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'make the most number of pairs' and 'blue jeans pant'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and precise vocabulary related to consumer behavior and sustainability. The spelling is generally accurate, and the errors present do not impede the reader's understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is consistently clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('a blue jeans pant', 'the number of social media influencers') and subject-verb agreement issues ('if parents will explain their kids'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly fragmented or awkward in their construction. To achieve a higher score, focus on refining your use of articles and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision and fewer minor errors.
