Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for excessive clothing consumption and solutions to reduce it. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of social media and the environmental impact of manufacturing. However, the development is somewhat uneven. For instance, the point about 'hectic lifestyle' preventing laundry is a bit weak and lacks clear connection to the broader trend of over-consumption. The solutions are practical, but the explanation of how taxes would work or how to 'inculcate' awareness could be more detailed. Overall, the response covers all requirements, but the depth of analysis is limited, placing it in the Band 6 range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The use of cohesive devices such as 'To commence', 'Apart from this', 'However', and 'In conclusion' helps guide the reader through the argument. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. For example, the link between the introduction and the first body paragraph is standard but lacks sophistication. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as the transition to the point about laundry. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the flow is sufficient for a Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'elucidated', 'proliferated', and 'inculcated'. However, some of these are used inaccurately or in unnatural collocations (e.g., 'taxes should be proliferated' is not standard usage; 'inculcated that forests... are impacted' is also awkward). There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'a require clothes' instead of 'required clothing'. While the meaning is always clear, the lack of precision in word choice and collocation prevents a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'shopping the designer clothes' (unnecessary article), 'wearing a perfect clothes' (plural/singular mismatch), and 'adhere footstep of anyone' (missing preposition). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, and punctuation is generally functional but occasionally lacks precision. The frequency of these errors suggests a Band 6 level, as the student demonstrates a basic command of grammar but lacks the consistent accuracy required for higher bands.
