Nowadays, people buying far too many clothes than required has become a widely discussed topic. This essay will discuss the main reasons behind this, such as fashion trends and influence of social media and suggest ways on how people can be persuaded to reduce the number of clothes they buy.

Firstly, the major reason behind this is that people feel that this outfit is trendy these days and but two to three sets of that outfit. Moreover, the second main reason could be that they feel they have already posted on social media in that outfit, so they want a new outfit to post. For example, one of my friend is an influencer on Instagram, she always buy the clothes that are trendy at the span of time and after sometime when the trend changes, she buys new clothes and the older ones are left in her wardrobe untouched. As a result, people by many clothes that are not even required and end up spending a lot of money on clothes.

People can be persuaded to reduce the number of clothes they purchase through public awareness campaigns. They could be informed by the environmental problems cause by fast fashion. For instances, the government or schools should encourage the people to buy a few good quality clothes that last longer, rather than buying more clothes frequently. This could prevent people from unnecessary shopping and reduce environmental problems.

In conclusion, people buy too many clothes mainly because of fashion trends and social media. However, they can be convinced to buy less clothes by public awareness campaigns and education.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for excessive clothing consumption and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of social media and the role of public awareness campaigns. However, the development is somewhat limited. The explanation regarding fashion trends is brief, and the solutions could be more detailed. While the position is clear, the essay would benefit from more depth in the analysis to reach a higher band. The structure is logical, but the supporting examples, such as the mention of an influencer friend, are a bit anecdotal and could be framed more formally to strengthen the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'As a result', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'fast fashion' and 'public awareness campaigns'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'at the span of time' and 'people by many clothes' (a spelling error for 'buy'). To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive word choices. The current range is sufficient for communication but lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'people buying far too many clothes... has become' (subject-verb agreement), 'one of my friend' (should be 'friends'), and 'environmental problems cause by' (should be 'caused by'). Punctuation is mostly correct, but there are some minor slips. The control of grammar is sufficient to convey the intended message, but the frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy is recommended.
