Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for overconsumption and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you identify reasons like social status and marketing, the explanation is often vague or lacks logical depth. For instance, the link between 'over caring' parents and frequent clothing changes is unclear. The second part of the prompt regarding solutions is addressed only in the conclusion, which is too brief and lacks specific, actionable suggestions. To improve, ensure each body paragraph fully explores a single idea with clear examples and logical progression, and dedicate a full paragraph to the solutions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of clear cohesive devices. While some transition words like 'In addition' and 'Moreover' are used, they are sometimes applied mechanically or incorrectly. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'This lead to negative effect on middle-class young people', where the antecedent is ambiguous. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'unnecessarily pose to bullying' and 'people lend to brandes'. Some words are misspelled, such as 'pleothora', 'soicety', and 'effct'. While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, the lack of precision often hinders clarity. To reach a higher band, focus on learning the correct collocations for common topics and ensure you proofread for spelling errors, which currently distract from the quality of your arguments.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('This trend has play', 'entrepreneurs providing'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are often error-prone, which can make the text difficult to follow. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with hyphenation and spacing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and using articles correctly. Reducing the complexity of your sentences until you have better control over basic grammar will help improve your overall accuracy.
