Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for excessive clothing consumption and solutions to mitigate it. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of social status and celebrity culture. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion of government schemes for recycling is mentioned but lacks specific detail on how this would practically reduce the purchase of new clothes. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis could be improved by exploring the psychological aspects of consumerism or the environmental impact more thoroughly to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On one hand', 'Secondly', and 'To sum up', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of social status and the influence of celebrities is abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the solutions, which aids overall readability.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary era' and 'minimize', but there are also recurring issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'style of statement' instead of 'fashion statement' and 'arrange the campaign' instead of 'launch a campaign'. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a band 7 or above.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Most of the people considers') and article usage ('the key factor', 'the shopping of the clothes'). There are also minor punctuation and capitalization errors, such as unnecessary capitalization of 'Most' and 'The' mid-sentence. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to demonstrate a lack of consistent control over complex structures, which is a characteristic of the band 6 level.
