Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has become a tendency to frequently purchase clothes in many parts of the world. This trend is influenced by the rapidly-growing fashions industry and social media. To deter people from redundant purchases governments and media have to spreading awareness about environmental pollution caused by excess cloth production.

The primary reason why people buy clothes more frequently is due to rapidly-growing fashion industry. Cloth manufacturers made new styles of clothing very frequently and at very affordable price, it encourage people to try those new cloths even thought their old ones are perfectly fine. Another reason is the widespread use of social media. People daily look at their friends and favourite public figures wearing new type of outfits, which creates a desire of purchasing new cloths to maintain or try current styling trend. For example, A person who sees his favorite actor wearing new type of clothing might get influenced and buys the same attire at affordable price. As a result people made unwanted and frequent purchases.

To persuad people from buying far too many clothes, governments and media should make awarness campains exposing the negative impact of the cloth production on the environment, particularly water consumption and land contamination. If people are aware of the consequences of buying excess clothe they will be more mindfull when making a new purchase. Consequently, people will willingly deter from buying unwanted cloths.

To conclude, trend of purchasing far too many clothes is the result of fast-growing garment sector and peer pressure from the social media. The Campains that spead awareness about environmental impact of cloth production is excellent way to reduce frequent cloth purchases.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for excessive clothing purchases and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of social media and the role of the fashion industry. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention environmental awareness as a solution, it could be expanded with more concrete examples of how this would be implemented (e.g., government legislation or sustainable fashion incentives). The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis remains at a surface level, preventing it from reaching the higher bands. To improve, ensure each point is fully extended with specific consequences or logical outcomes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition between sentences could be smoother; phrases like 'Another reason is' and 'As a result' are used correctly but are quite standard. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing, such as the use of 'the' before 'social media' or 'the fashion industry' which is sometimes inconsistent. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redundant purchases', 'environmental pollution', and 'water consumption'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the quality, such as 'cloth' instead of 'clothing' or 'clothes', 'mindfull' (spelling), and 'spead' (spelling). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a lack of precision. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensure accurate spelling of key topic-related vocabulary. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning, but lacks the flexibility required for higher scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'governments and media have to spreading awareness', 'Cloth manufacturers made new styles', 'people made unwanted and frequent purchases'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses and ensure that your sentence structures are grammatically sound. Reducing these frequent minor errors will significantly improve your score in this criterion.
