Student answer (Band 6.5)

It has been noticed that people in some nations purchase large number of clothes. I believe this is true and this approach is due to multiple reasons. In the upcoming essay, we will discuss the reasons for this trend and suggest some measures to reduce their buying.

To commence with, one of the primary reason for this approach is wheather, as some countries have all the four seasons. Consequently, they have a different wheather and temperature throughout the year. Due to this, the citizens of such nations have to get apparels and footwares for every season such as shorts for summer, jackets for fall, and snow shoes for winter. For example, because of the diversity of weather in North American countries like Canada and the US, people have to buy clothes every quater of the year. Morover, there is one more factor which can cause excess buying of attires and that is 'fast fashion'. Fashion and trends are changing at least two to three times annually. Therefore, the young generation is keen of following this trend which leads to excessive purchase of garments.

Furthermore, several measures can be taken by individuals to reduce this buying culture. Firstly, they should focus on buying high quality clothes. So, instead of buying new items every year they can use the previous ones. This measure could saves them money as well. Secondly, they should consider donating their extra clothes to needy people. This could enhance the sense of community among people. Additionally, there are numerous recycling centres where we can recycle and trade our clothes for money.

To sum up, as per aforementioned arguments, it is clear that people are buying excessively because of climate or fast fashion trends. This could be reduced upto an extent by buying high quality clothes and sometimes by donating or recycling them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for excessive clothing consumption and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact of seasonal weather changes and the influence of 'fast fashion'. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, while the link between weather and clothing is mentioned, the explanation could be more nuanced regarding consumer behavior. The solutions provided, such as donating and recycling, are practical but could be expanded with more detail or specific examples to reach a higher band. Overall, the position is clear, and all requirements of the task are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Consequently', 'Furthermore', and 'To sum up', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved to sound more natural. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the solutions, which aids the overall readability of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at topic-specific language like 'fast fashion', 'garments', and 'attires'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'wheather' (weather), 'quater' (quarter), and 'Morover' (Moreover). Additionally, the phrase 'get apparels and footwares' is slightly unnatural; 'purchase clothing and footwear' would be more precise. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'one of the primary reason' (should be 'reasons'), 'this measure could saves them' (should be 'save'), and 'reduced upto an extent' (should be 'to an extent'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are occasional slips. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and modal verbs.
