Student answer (Band 6.5)
It has been noticed that people in some nations purchase a large number of clothes. I believe this is true and this approach is due to multiple reasons. In the upcoming essay, we will discuss the reasons for this trend and suggest some measures to reduce their buying.
To commence with, one of the primary reasons for this approach is weather, as some countries have all four seasons. Consequently, they have different weather and temperature throughout the year. Due to this, the citizens of such nations have to get clothing and footwear for every season such as shorts for summer, jackets for fall, and snow shoes for winter. For example, because of the diversity of weather in North American countries like Canada and the US, people have to buy clothes every quarter of the year. Morever, there is one more factor which can cause excess buying of clothing and that is 'fast fashion'. Fashion and trends are changing at least two to three times annually. Therefore, the young generation is keen on following this trend which leads to excessive purchase of garments.
Furthermore, several measures can be taken by individuals to reduce this buying culture. Firstly, they should focus on buying high quality clothes. So, instead of buying new items every year they can use the previous ones. This measure could save them money as well. Secondly, they should consider donating their extra clothes to needy people. So, they do not have to make new purchases. This could enhance the sense of community among people. Additionally, there are numerous recycling centres where we can recycle and trade our clothes for money. This method is environment sustainable and futher people can buy those recycle clothes at an affordable price.
To sum up, as per the aforementioned arguments, it is clear that people are buying excessively because of climate or fast fashion trends. This could be reduced to an extent by buying high quality clothes and sometimes by donating or recycling them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for excessive clothing consumption and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact of seasonal weather and the influence of 'fast fashion'. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, the suggestion to 'buy high quality clothes' is a good starting point, but it could be further extended by explaining how this shifts consumer behavior long-term. The position is clear throughout, and the response covers all requirements of the task effectively, though it lacks the depth of analysis required for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'To sum up' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and more sophisticated referencing to connect sentences more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'fast fashion', 'garments', and 'recycling centres'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'get clothing' instead of 'acquire apparel' or 'purchase clothing'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'environment sustainable' instead of 'environmentally sustainable'. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to incorporate more precise collocations and a broader range of academic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'futher people can buy those recycle clothes' (should be 'recycled') and 'the diversity of weather' (which is slightly unnatural). Punctuation is generally correct, but there are minor slips in article usage and pluralization. The majority of sentences are error-free, but the lack of more sophisticated complex structures and the presence of occasional errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band. The grammar is functional and does not impede communication.
