Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for excessive clothing purchases and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, focusing on social media influence, fast fashion, and the role of education. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the influence of social media, which is mentioned in both the second and third paragraphs. While the position is clear, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended with more specific examples beyond general observations about students. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than circling back to previously mentioned concepts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the causes to the solutions. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'It is hard to fathom that how social media has boom'. Transitions between sentences are occasionally abrupt, and some referencing is unclear. For instance, the link between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to avoid the feeling that the same point is being restated. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would enhance the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use topic-specific language like 'fast fashion', 'public awareness', and 'financial status'. However, there are several word-choice errors and inaccuracies, such as 'cloths' instead of 'clothes', 'has boom' instead of 'has boomed', and 'in less price' instead of 'at a lower price'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. Expanding the range of vocabulary and focusing on correct collocations would help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and prepositions (e.g., 'letting masses to buy', 'people got the habit', 'on the bases of'). Some sentences are structurally awkward, such as 'not following trend may see themselves negatively'. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of infinitive versus gerund forms after specific verbs.
