Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is an undeniable fact that in the present time people are purchasing clothes to a great extent, while others reject this notion. This essay will analyze on why this trend going so viral with suitable examples.
On the first hand, individuals are getting influenced by social media. Daily life content creators or Fashion designers have started to upload their content with wearing clothes which are in trend to gain more views and reactions. This influence is creating an urge to the viewers to buy the trendy clothes to stay updated with the trend on social media. To illustrate this, Windsor University students have one thing in common that is, maximum number of students will be wearing a jacket of Unicorn to stay in the trend which was worn by a singer.
Although, purchasing new clothes every now and then to cope up with the trend leads to damage the environment significantly. As people buy new clothes, older clothes are tend to be outdated and are thrown away in the garbage which fills the land fills faster. However, to reduce this, companies of fashion industry should promote customers to donate the clothes to them for recycling which will help our environment to be more healthier. For example, H&M brand gives discounts coupons to customers who donates every month for recycling rather than dumping it into the garbage.
In conclusion, I would recommend people to not to get influenced by the fashion designers and if there is an urge to buy new clothes, make sure to donate them to recycle for reducing pollution.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for excessive clothing consumption and methods to encourage reduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation regarding social media influence is clear, but the example of 'Windsor University students' wearing a 'jacket of Unicorn' is slightly confusing and lacks sufficient detail to fully support the argument. The second body paragraph offers a practical solution, and the H&M example is relevant. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the underlying psychological reasons for overconsumption, such as the 'fast fashion' business model or the desire for social status, rather than just focusing on social media trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the first hand', 'To illustrate this', and 'In conclusion', though some are used incorrectly or sound unnatural, such as 'On the first hand' (should be 'On the one hand'). The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the causes to the environmental impact and finally to potential solutions. However, the referencing is occasionally weak, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The use of linking words is sometimes mechanical, which prevents the essay from achieving a higher score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'fashion industry', 'recycling', and 'pollution'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'trend going so viral', 'cope up with', and 'make sure to donate them to recycle'. These errors indicate a limited range of vocabulary and a lack of precision. To improve, focus on learning collocations and more sophisticated synonyms for common words like 'buy' or 'clothes'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that distract the reader. Examples include 'older clothes are tend to be outdated', 'companies of fashion industry should promote customers', and 'donates every month'. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and preposition placement. While you attempt complex structures, the control over them is inconsistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions.
