Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today's world, it is debated whether people buy too much clothing that isn't even necessary. Spending money on useless clothing is a curse on saving in the long run. This essay will discuss the main reasons and ways to prevent people from buying unnecessary clothing.
One of the main reasons is that people want to show off their clothing style and make a fashion statement. In addition to this, they are influenced by people on social media, and in the race to look good and make an impression in their friend circle, they also purchase unnecessary things. Another reason is the world becoming global, and clothing merchants buy clothes from other countries at a cheaper rate and also sell them at affordable rates to consumers. Furthermore, working professionals often fear being judged if they repeat their clothes daily. Therefore, they spend lots of money on buying clothes. Lastly, people buy new clothes for every single festival and wear them for a single time, take photos, and think they cannot wear them again because they have already taken photos in them.
There are some ways in which they can stop themselves from buying numerous pieces of clothing. First of all, as a society, people should stop judging each other on the basis of repeated clothes, because it has nothing to do with status and wealth. Moreover, a lot of water has been wasted in the making process of a single piece of clothing. Other than this, the government should hold awareness campaigns in which they should make people aware of the impact of making clothes on the environment. Because water is a vital natural resource of nature for future generations, it should be properly used.
In concusion, I opine that with the combine efforts of government and individuals people can prevent themselves to buying number of clothes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the task well, identifying multiple clear reasons for excessive clothing purchases, such as social media influence, globalization making clothes cheaper, professional pressure, and fear of repeating outfits after photographing them. Solutions are also provided, including societal shifts regarding judging outfits and government-led environmental awareness campaigns. The position is clear throughout, and ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the fear of being judged at work. The response meets all task requirements effectively, earning a solid Band 7.0 for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing reasons and solutions, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices are used throughout to guide the reader, such as 'One of the main reasons', 'In addition to this', 'Furthermore', and 'First of all'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, grouping reasons together and then transitioning into solutions. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes a bit mechanical, and there are occasional slight awkwardness in paragraph flow. Overall, the organization shows clear logical progression, supporting a Band 6.5 rating.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and phrases such as 'fashion statement', 'vital natural resource', and 'awareness campaigns'. However, there are some noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'a curse on saving' instead of a drain on savings, 'making process' instead of manufacturing process, and a spelling error in the conclusion ('concusion'). Additionally, prepositional errors like 'prevent themselves to buying' instead of 'from buying' limit the precision. These inaccuracies place the lexical performance firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures reasonably well (e.g., 'In today's world, it is debated whether people buy too much clothing that isn't even necessary'). There are several grammatical errors present, particularly with prepositions and verb forms, such as 'wear them for a single time' and 'prevent themselves to buying number of clothes'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication. This balance of complex structures and frequent minor errors aligns well with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
