Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, in this contemproray world a number of individuals are buying far more clothes than they need. This is because clothes are becoming cheaper and easily affordable. In my opinion, encouraging them to focus on health insted of fashion is the simplest way to convince them to buy less clothes.
The most prominent reasons why number of people buy more clothes is much more affordable than it used to be. This is partly because of salary rises and partly because the price for essential goods such as clothing has fallen. Many families now have two income earners rather
than one, they have fewer kids and often have a car. All of these factors increase the likelihood of people to buy more clothes. In the past, for eample, it might have cost monthly's salary to buy one pair of shirt and trousers, but these days it is possible to individuals to purchase extra pair of clothes for the cost of half a weekly pay.
The easiest way to persuaded people is to encourage them to stay healthy rather than styalist all the time. That is to say, nowadays, people wants to look more stylist due to peer presure, and they forget to take care of theirs health. To encourage them, government should start a campaign to educate people about to have a balanced approach to live a life, they should more focus on not only style but also health is important in long run. For example, by consuming such content people become more health concious and spend money to improve it by joining a gym instead of buying stylist clothes.
Overall, greater affordability is the main reason for people are buying too many clothes, encourage about health value is more important rather than stylist is the way to convice people to reduce the number of clothes they buy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring the reasons why people buy too many clothes and suggesting a solution involving health awareness. The student takes a clear position, stating that affordability drives excessive purchases and promoting a shift toward health to curb this trend. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly in the second main body paragraph where the proposed solution lacks depth and specificity. While the explanation of affordability is somewhat clear, the link between focusing on health and reducing clothing consumption feels slightly disjointed and simplistic. The response demonstrates a basic competence in fulfilling the task requirements, placing it firmly within the Band 5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing a basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally hindered by mechanical or repetitive cohesive devices. For instance, phrases like 'The most prominent reasons why number of people' and 'The easiest way to persuaded people' lack smooth integration. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is sometimes faulty, and referencing is not always clear, such as in the final paragraph which runs ideas together rather than summarising them cohesively. The overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow, but it lacks the flexibility and logical flow required for a higher band, making Band 5 an appropriate evaluation.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'contemproray', 'prominent', and 'concious'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('contemproray', 'insted', 'for eample', 'styalist', 'presure', 'theirs', 'concious') and word-form inaccuracies ('to buy less clothes', 'to persuaded people', 'monthly's salary', 'extra pair of clothes'). These lexical errors and awkward collocations cause some distraction and strain the reader at times, though communication is generally maintained. This performance aligns with the Band 5 criteria for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses. However, control over grammar is inconsistent, leading to frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('reasons why number of people... is', 'people wants'), incorrect infinitive and participle forms ('to reduce the number of clothes they buy' vs 'to buy less clothes', 'encourage about health value'), and clumsy prepositional usage. While the meaning is usually retrievable, the density of grammatical errors prevents the response from achieving a Band 6.
