Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that there is trend of buying too many clothes in some countries. In the paragraphs I will describe the reasons for this, and will provide some suggestions to overcome this situation.
One of the main reason is the internet. Because of this the people get more exposure to different websites of clothing brands, and nowadays brands are doing the publicity of their products over the social media platforms which gives flexibility to buyers of doing shopping at any time. For instance, if someone is scrolling the instagram and they find a new interesting ad of a product then surely they will visit the website to explore it, which may leads them to buy a new item even they don’t need it. Furthermore, show-off is the another reason of this trend. As many people thinks if they post any picture on their social media account with repetitive clothes then they may get judged by the viewers. So to show the richness they wear new outfit every time they posted.
To overcome this problem, people should think twice before buying anything. For example, they should check their wardrobe and ask themselves a question that do they have any requirement or are they buying it just for the satisfaction? Moreover, the government should show the data of pollution occurs due to the wastage of clothes. This way may help to reduce the number of clothes they buy.
To conclude, although the people are following this trend to enhance their status socially, it is affecting the environment and natural resources in a negative way.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the task by identifying reasons for excessive clothing purchases, such as internet exposure and social media pressure, and suggesting solutions like mindful purchasing and government data campaigns. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as scrolling on Instagram and the fear of being judged for wearing repetitive outfits. However, the development of ideas could be slightly more extended and sophisticated to reach the higher bands. For example, the solution regarding government data is somewhat brief. Overall, the position is clear and all parts of the prompt are adequately covered, fulfilling the criteria for Band 6.5, rounded to Band 6.0 based on the depth of idea extension.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct paragraphs for reasons and solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'For example', and 'To conclude' are employed to guide the reader through the text. However, there are instances where referencing and cohesion are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'One of the main reason is the internet' followed by 'Because of this the people get more exposure...'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the lack of more sophisticated transitional phrases limits the score to Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common items and topic-specific language, such as 'publicity', 'flexibility', and 'natural resources'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text. For instance, writing 'doing the publicity of their products' is unnatural, and phrases like 'show-off is the another reason' or 'repetitive clothes' show limitations in lexical control. Spelling is generally accurate, but the frequent minor inaccuracies in word formation and collocation place this response firmly in the Band 6.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilising conditional structures and relative clauses (e.g., 'if someone is scrolling the instagram and they find a new interesting ad...'). However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward structures present, such as 'One of the main reason is' (plural/singular mismatch), 'the people' (unnecessary article), 'scrolling the instagram', and 'which may leads them' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and these errors rarely impede overall communication, but they occur with enough frequency to prevent the essay from achieving a Band 7.0.
