Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many parts of the world, people should purchase far many clothes than they actually need. This trend is massively driven by fast fashion, social media, and aggresssive marketing. However, there are several effective strategies that can encourage individuals to diminish their clothing consumption.
One major factor is the rapid turnover of fashion trends. Clothing companies could frequently release new collection at affordable prices, prompting consumers to replace with their existing wardrobe. Addditionally, social media has intensified concerns about personal appearance. Influencers often showcase new outfits, leading some populace to feel that wearing the same clothes repeatedly is boring and outdated. Moreover, frequent discounts and special offers can spur unnecessary purchases, as people believe that they are saving money, buying them regualrly may lead to excessive spending and significant waste.
Several factors can help address this issue. Initially, governemnets and schools could educate public about the environmental impact of fast fastion. Consumers should be encourage to buy fewer, higher-quality items that will last for years. Furthermore, clothing companies could also be incentivized to produce durable garments and lessen the number of collections they introduce. In addition, population could be persuaded to repair, reuse and donated unwanted clothes instead of purchasing new pieces. For instance, a person might invest in a few well-made shirts rather than buying several cheap ones every season.
In conclusion, excessive clothing consumption is mainly caused by changing trends, social media influences, and attractive pricing. Whereas, altering this habit may be challenging. Greater awareness, accountable shopping practices, and sustainable fashion can make a considerable difference.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, covering both the reasons why people buy too many clothes and how they can be persuaded to reduce their purchases. In the introduction, the writer states that the trend is driven by fast fashion, social media, and aggressive marketing. In the body paragraphs, these points are further expanded, mentioning factors like the rapid turnover of trends, influencer culture, and discounts. The second main body paragraph successfully proposes solutions such as education, government and company incentives, and encouraging repair and reuse. The position is clear throughout, and ideas are extended and supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as investing in a few well-made shirts. Although some points could be elaborated further, the overall development satisfies the requirements for a solid band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information is coherently structured, starting with an introduction that outlines the response, followed by body paragraphs dedicated separately to reasons and solutions, and concluding with a concise summary. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as "One major factor", "Addditionally", "Moreover", and "Furthermore". However, paragraphing and referencing contain minor flaws, and some transitional expressions feel slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition in the conclusion ("Whereas, altering this habit may be challenging") is grammatically fragmented and disrupts the cohesive flow. Despite these minor issues, the logical relationship between ideas is easy to follow, making this a strong band 6.5 leaning towards 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "rapid turnover", "influencers", "environmental impact", and "sustainable fashion". However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text that prevent a higher score. For example, "aggresssive" and "Addditionally" contain spelling mistakes, "some populace" is an unnatural collocation (better as 'some people' or 'the populace'), and "educate public" misses a necessary article. Furthermore, the opening sentence contains a lexical error ("people should purchase far many clothes than they actually need" instead of 'far more'). While communication is never impeded, these inaccuracies place the response firmly in the band 6 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and modal verbs effectively (e.g., "that can encourage individuals to diminish their clothing consumption", "Clothing companies could frequently release new collection"). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings across the text. Examples include subject-verb or pluralisation discrepancies ("new collection" instead of 'new collections', "governemnets and schools could educate public", "Consumers should be encourage"), preposition/verb misuse ("replace with their existing wardrobe"), and fragment punctuation in the conclusion ("Whereas, altering this habit may be challenging"). These errors demonstrate a mixed control of grammar and punctuation, though they rarely impede overall communication, fitting the band 6 descriptors well.
