Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the task by identifying reasons for excessive clothing purchases—namely, rising disposable income and the influence of social media—and proposing logical solutions such as higher taxes and repair culture workshops. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are generally well developed and supported with relevant reasoning, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors. However, some arguments, such as the mechanism of heavy taxation impacting frequent purchasers, could have been elaborated with slightly more depth to reach higher bands. Overall, all parts of the prompt are covered adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving from an introduction to causes, followed by solutions, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'In addition to that', 'Nevertheless', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the text, although some transitional phrasing feels slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring that ideas flow logically from one point to the next, which is characteristic of a Band 7 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow for some flexibility and precision, employing terms such as 'disposable income', 'apparel sales', and 'repair culture'. Less common lexical items are attempted with some awareness of style, though there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice or collocation, such as 'frequent promoptions' (a typo for promotions), 'famous actors works in ads industry', and 'replacing it with new once' (ones). Despite these minor errors, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede overall communication, placing it solidly at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses. There are, however, several grammatical errors present throughout the text, such as 'In recent year' instead of 'In recent years', 'attires' (attire is uncountable), 'enables individuals interest' instead of 'engages individuals' interests', and 'reparing' instead of 'repairing'. Punctuation and article usage are also occasionally faulty. While these errors do not impede communication, their frequency prevents the essay from achieving a higher score, making Band 6 an accurate reflection of the writer's grammatical control.
